Leona Z Rosenberg
Leona Rosenberg served as president of NCJW
Chicago Section from 1980-1983, but her legacy
will continue for years to come. She was the last
surviving co-founder of Thresholds, a social
services organization she started under the
auspices of the National Council of Jewish Women,
that provides services to people with mental
disorders and substance abuse problems.
Thousands each year receive treatment due to Leona's initiative,
passion and leadership. During her years with NCJW, Leona also
helped guide us to new service projects in the areas of senior
assistance, juvenile justice, employment and support, and violence
against women.

Leona was selfless and constantly put other people first. She was a
mentor and a friend and sent an example for generations of NCJW
leaders to come. NCJW Chicago North Shore was the beneficiary of a
generous gift from Leona's estate which is being used to launch the
Leona Z Rosenberg Leadership Intiative. See page 10 for information
about the initative and how you can become one of Leona's Leaders!
What Makes a Good Leader?
Leona Z Rosenberg Leadership Initiative
NCJW makes change happen. Over 125 years of driving social change
is rooted in our faith-based mission of justice for all. Our winning
team of motivated leaders, advocates and volunteers influence
decision makers, impact their communities and create lasting change.
NCJW provides the opportunity for volunteers to become leaders and
now, through the generosity of Past President Leona Rosenberg, we
can train a new generation of NCJW leaders through our two-part
intitative.

NCJW L.E.A.D.S (leadership exploration and development
series)
NCJW LEADS will provide in-depth leadership development and
training to existing NCJW leaders and potential leaders. The goal is to
build confident NCJW leaders ready to take on greater roles and
responsibility within our section and within our community.

NCJW L.I.F.T.S (leadership impact fellowship training series)
When women lead, change follows. NCJW has been leading the way
for over 125 years. But it is not enough to lead unless we also lift - lift
up other voices, lift up the next generation, NCJW LIFTS brings
together an annual cohort of 8-10 women* who seek professional
growth, relationship-building opportunities, and a higher level of

NCJW is Guided and Inspired by Jewish Values:
Kaavod Ha Bri’ot: Respect and Dignity for all Human Beings
   Talmud Torah: Education and Awareness
Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof: The Pursuit of Justice

NCJW is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who
turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW
strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women,
children, & families & by safeguarding individual rights & freedoms.

NCJW was founded to ensure safer and healthier lives for all those in
need. Its earliest work focused on advocating for child labor laws, fair
housing, health and education, and fighting for voting and civil rights.
Over 125 years later, our priorities remain the same. NCJW members
are outspoken champions for progressive policies at the federal,
state, & local levels. Over the years, NCJW’s collective voice has
changed the world for the better – improving the lives of women,
children, & families in the US & Israel.

In July 2021, we will be launching an interactive timeline of our
amazing history. Visit https://ncjwcns.org/about/history after July
15 for more information and to learn more about NCJW.
