Get in touch directly with Alice to find out more and discuss your technical needs: alice@agrifood-innovations.com.” Cattle Entry Forms We would like to remind our customers of the importance of correctly filling out Cattle Entry Forms. ALL cattle must be accompanied by a fully completed and signed entry form to include the TB testing interval and date of most recent test along with Farm assurance details and any reserves. Cattle entry forms can be collected from the market office or downloaded from our website. If you have any questions, please ask a member of staff or call us on 01664 562971. Social Distancing We draw everyone’s attention to the operating arrangements for all livestock markets at this current time. Customers are reminded that social distancing should be practiced at all times and facemasks should be worn in areas whereby social distancing becomes difficult. Farm assurance status Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made. Pay on the day policy – reminder of terms We would like to remind our customers that all store and breeding stock must be paid for on the day. Prime stock purchasers can apply for terms using an account form, which can be posted or emailed on request and are also available from the market office. For Prime stock purchasers with credit agreements, credit terms will extend to a maximum of two weeks. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01664 562971. Named/Numbered Sires Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

PRIME SHEEP AUCTIONEER – SCOTT RUCK Tel: 07796 897516 *4045 Head of Prime Sheep Forward & Sold* Prime Hoggs (2492) SQQ 281.18p/kg to 316p/kg & £150 After last week’s record-breaking numbers, another grand show filled the sheep shed as we saw 4045 grace the docks today, from exactly 100 vendors purchased by 42 buying accounts. We proudly continue to play cricket with a straight bat at Melton Mowbray Market for our commission paying vendors with a ‘no funny business’ approach and as ever, weigh every kilo and pay for all sheep that pass our bridges. Thanks to all for supporting this system and those who continue to support live marketing, setting the tone for others to follow. It is a continual credit to droving and office staff when several compliments from new vendors report what a pleasant atmosphere Melton Mowbray is. Hoggs a tad easier on the week but a show as described in places by one purchaser as “the worst seen down the Alleys for years”. A lot of vendors coming to the end of their draws seeming to come all at once with half meated goods on offer. None the less, able buying power finding jobs for all qualities and the cream rising to the top and as ever, al qualities included in the average. Reports of lockdowns and hogg prices proving loss leading for some wholesalers causing some resistance, but still a grand trade producing favourable returns. A top today of 316p/kg for CJ & NJ Taylor for 38kg with 314p/kg seen for Craig Baxter of the same weight and a pleasure to see J Bonsall down the alleys with 35kg to 310p/kg. Britten and Barber of the Norfolk supporters saw a top of 309p/kg for 40kg NSL, whilst local vendor K & A Watchorn saw lightweights to 308p/kg. RB Ingamells & Son of Barkston seeing heavier hoggs to 295p/kg alongside TW Needham & Son saw Charollais x to the same for 40kg. MR Peters of Sawtry saw 44kg to 292p/kg with MD Copley to 291p/kg for 43kg and AH Blackwell Partners to 291p/kg for 38kg.
Britten and Barber topping in the lump with heavyweight NSL to £150 with Hoggs from MD Copley to £140 at 50kg purchased by Martin Brown of Hillside Farm Shop, Melton Mowbray. Good to see Jack Peacock down the lines again with hoggs to £140 at 55kg, whilst Donald Haywood saw £138 for 55kg. NSL from Henry Tickler to £138 as JK Squires saw 58kg to £138. We continue to look for sheep numbers week in and out in a thriving sheep shed. Please help us to help you by booking sheep in by phone call or text. STORE LAMBS AUCTIONEER – MARTIN LLOYD Tel: 07775 758586 Store Hoggs (408) to £124.50 Average £93.74 An entry that can only be described as mixed. The average not really reflecting the quality of the sheep forward today with no end of small, hard- bred sorts included. Top today from FW Hoyles selling Texels to £124.50, with S Clark selling to £117. R Breed sold Continentals to £116.50 with FW Hoyles, again selling to £110. Still over 100 stores today trading over £100 with numbers still wanted nonetheless at a slightly lesser trade.
CULL EWES & GOATS AUCTIONEER – MARTIN LLOYD Tel: 07775 758586 Cull Ewes & Goats (949) to £164 Average £102.59 Another nice number forward today in the “Stockyard of the Midlands”; however, quality waning with a number of lambing casualties and lean ewes included in the entry. That said, with everything included, a very respectable average of £102.59 - a credit to the buying power at penside, with trade looking perhaps dearer than last week for the goods on offer. Topping today saw a super Charollais Ram from GC & CJ Watson, Desborough selling to £164, with ewes from the same stable selling to £147. Monster Romneys from Chapel Farming saw a top of £145, equal with Texels from C Doubleday-Collishaw, as well as RE Johnson. Phil Weaver saw super Texel sorts to £141 to the same as WF & RCM Pickard. The weight today trading over £120 with 116 ewes over £130! Top Suffolks today selling to £135 from Chapel Farming, with top mules to £122 from CD & S Willars. Shelly ewes today were plentiful and these trading £98-£105, with lightweight ewes £88-£92. Goats (16) Breeding goats today flying high to see David and Linda Wadland selling a Nanny with Kid to £100 per life. Cull goats topping today from RG Thompson, up from Daventry, selling to £135, with KM Farms selling to £130, with the Wadland clan to £129! Ewe and Ram Levy We will not be making deductions for levies and meat inspections on ewes. This reflects that many ewes do not go straight to slaughter (where the levies are ultimately paid). This will leave more of the sale proceeds in the hands of our vendors and fewer lines on the statement. Should you have any questions, please contact the office.

In particular it proposes to limit journey times to a maximum of 21 hours, including time at market, making many journeys impossible. It also has minimum outside temperatures of 5ᵒC for non-temperature-controlled transport, meaning that many farmers would be unable to transport stock in conditions that existed last week and might have to leave them in the fields. It is vital that as many people as possible respond to the consultation, which can be found here -https://consult.defra.gov.uk/transforming-farm-animal-health-and-welfare- team/improvements-to-animal-welfare-in-transport/
