We'll bed down at one of the region's finest hotels and enjoy Start | End premium accommodations, all leading up to the big show: a ride on the Geneva, S wit z erland course in the heart of the Alps. This year's route takes us on some of Dates the area's more well-known imposing beasts, like the Col de la Croix Fry Dat es C o ming S o o n and Col de la Colombière, but also some undiscovered gems like the hidden hulk of l'Arpettaz and the intimate Leschaux. DAILY ITINERARY 2018 TOD AY 'S RID E: Day L a C lu sa z t o C o l d e la C r o ix Fry L oop Approximately 20 miles with 2,900 f eet of climbing 1 D ESCRIPTION: Welcome to the world's f avorite climbing capital! A private shuttle will meet you at the Geneva airport on the f irst day of the trip. Af ter an hour drive to La Clusaz, our base f or the next week, you'll meet your Trek Travel guides and check in to your room. They'll f amiliarize you with your carbon Trek bicycle and ensure a solid f it, and discuss specif ic cycling tips f or riding in the French Alps. Enjoy your f irst spin in the region by climbing your f irst col of the week: Col de la Croix Fry. Croix Fry is a beuatif ul, picturesque climb and local f avorite in the region, used in the Tour f our times, with an average grade of 6%. It also f eatures in this year’s Etape, so consider it a primer of things to come! Once you've conquered your f irst col, head back to the hotel, kick your f eet up, and relax bef ore the group gets together f or the evening. We'll discuss the week ahead over drinks and light appetizers bef ore sitting to a delicious meal f eaturing a local, modern menu. We'll set out f or a loop over Thorens-Glieres, a tiny village and f ormer commune in Haute-Savoie. Don't worry -- it's not all about strategic planning today, as we'll be sure to stop f or lunch at a small, charming bistro in town bef ore returning to our hotel. Choose to relax away the rest of the day with your choice of activity at the hotel, bef ore we gather as a group in the evening f or a short walk to our f avorite local restaurant f or some of this region's world-class hospitality and f ood. Today we'll start early and log some solid saddle time along some of the region's most picturesque roads. Be prepared to be amazed, as this route includes imposing peaks and historic roads under a banner of blue sky as a backdrop, with ribbons of perf ect asphalt underneath. Once you reach the summit of Col des Aravis, take in the views of the f oreboding Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. Enjoy the descent to Megève and stop at a caf e along the way f or a quick espresso or sandwich f or lunch, and then continue on our route to tackle the Col de la Colombière. You'll have the privilege of pre-riding this beast of a mountain, with pitches up to 14 % in some places, bef ore you ride it on Etape day. Take in the views at the top and return back to our hotel to recover at the spa, or take a gorgeous walk through the small winding streets of of La Clusaz. Tonight, we'll walk to a restaurant knowns f or its glorious vantage of the village and Aravis mountains as we dine under the stars as a group. It's Europe's cleanest lake, and it serves as a gorgeous backdrop f or cyclists and runners alike. If you've got the legs, continue on to Col de Leschaux today. It's a nice mid-sized climb, 12KM long with an average grade of 4 %. Look over your shoulder as Annecy unf urls underneath you, as a majestic village and sky-blue lake. Then head back down f or lunch and a walk through the medieval center if you'd like, bef ore spinning back to La Clusaz f or an af ternoon of f ree time bef ore the group gathers f or dinner. You can check out the sponsor booths, size up the competition or just grab a glass of wine and watch the scene. Tonight, we'll meet as a group to discuss logistics and strategy with cocktails and a perf ect pre-race dinner to f uel you f or the next day. We'll be up and at 'em f or an early breakf ast and shuttle to the start of the event. Look around the crowded f ield of riders, but f eel good knowing that we've got your insider's pass to the support you need with special Trek Travel aid stops, sports nutrition and service. It starts with a spin out of Annecy and up the Croix Fry once again. Take in the sweeping views of the Aravis mountains as you descend bef ore hitting the steep ramps of Plateau des Glières with an average of 11% gradient. Then, recover through the valley, and make your way to f inal lung-buster of the day, Col de Romme and the f oreboding Colombière, with pitches of 14 % and more though f orested tarmac and open mountain roads. Ascend and celebrate! When you've def eated your demons and satisf ied the climbing gods, we'll see you at the f inish to cheer on your new f riends and celebrate with a picnic spread big enough to satisf y even the strongest Etape rouleurs. Sadly, today's our f inal goodbye to La Clusaz and all its special moments. Head out one last time up your new f avorite, the Col des Aravis, to take in sweeping views of Mont Blanc bef ore zipping back down to the village. If you’d rather skip the ride, f eel f ree to sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakf ast at the hotel. Private Trek Travel shuttles will depart f rom the hotel according to f light departure times.
