3. Find Your Way 3 Questions about your commute? The following packet will provide you with valuable information to assist you in planning your commute to work. The Boston Red Sox is a member of A Better City Transportation Management Associ- ation (ABC TMA), a non-profit organization working to address employee commute and transportation issues in the downtown, Back Bay, Fenway, Kenmore and Allston/Brighton areas of Boston in order to improve congestion, air quali- ty, and livability. Through ABC TMA all employees are eligible to participate in the following programs and services: Guaranteed Ride Home Program: Don’t get stranded at work! The Guaranteed Ride Home program allows all employees that take the bus, subway, commuter rail, boat, carpool, vanpool, bike or walk to work to re- ceive a free Guaranteed Ride Home in the event of an emergency or unscheduled overtime. Ridematching: Ever wonder if there was a neighbor you could share the ride into work with? The ABC TMA uses NuRide a web-based ridematching system to match member employees with other employees com- muting into the Boston area who are interested in sharing a ride. Bicycle and Pedestrian Incentive Program: “Work out to Work” is ABC TMA’s program providing incentives and safety training to employees who bike or walk to work. Participants submit estimated miles each month in the program and are then entered to win monthly prize packages. Vanpool Seat Subsidy Program: ABC TMA offers financial assistance to those employees interested in forming a vanpool or any drive alone commuters who joins one of the VRIDE vanpools already serving the downtown area. Looking to join an existing vanpool or starting a new vanpool? See VRIDE’s new and easy to use web- site at: www.vride.com Carpool Subsidy Program: ABC TMA provides assistance to new carpools by covering a portion of the cost of fuel (up to $35) for six months. Express Bus/Commuter Boat Subsidy Program: The “Express Yourself” program provides $100 per month for three months to employees currently driving alone into work, if they agree to use an MBTA Express Bus, Private Bus Carrier, or MBTA Commuter Boat. Construction/Traffic Advisories: Keep up to date on all area roadway construction projects that may affect you or your employees commutes. ABC TMA sends out electronic notices and updates from MassDOT, MBTA, City of Boston, and other agencies. Like us on Facebook for the latest news and events. 4. Biking Information 4 Bike Parking at Fenway: There are 12 bicycle racks near Fenway Park provided by the City of Boston. The racks can be found at 40 Yawkey Way and 82 Landsdowne Street. Hubway Stations: Hubway is Boston’s bike sharing system with 60 stations and 600 bicycles throughout the greater Boston area ,Rent a bike near your home or office and pedal your way to the next lunch meeting, errand or shopping trip, or to visit friends and family. The cost of your membership includes unlimited rides under 30 minutes and longer rides incur additional usage fees. A Hubway station is located at Yawkey and Boylston St. MassCommute Bicycle Challenge Form a Boston Red Sox team and compete during this yearly bicycle challenge held during Bay State Bike Week, on the third week of May. Partici- pants can log commute miles, fitness miles, and errands run by bicycle. The winning team with the most miles and the individual s with the most miles logged are recognized during the Bike Bash, held the following week, all participants who attend the Bike Bash will also have the opportunity to win great prizes including a new bike! ABC TMA hosts free breakfast tune-ups during Bay State Bike Week. Bike Fridays During the summer months, join Boston Bikes at City Hall for Bike Fridays. 2012 dates are: Aug 31th. Sign up for a bike convoy departing from various neighborhoods and meet up at City Hall plaza for a free breakfast and bike expo. Convoys start in Dorchester, West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Brighton, Newton, Belmont, Lexington and Cambridge/Somerville. Hub on Wheels During the last Sunday of September, the City of Boston organizes a bike ride through the City of Boston known as Hub on Wheels which starts and ends at City Hall Plaza. Participants can choose routes of 10, 30, or 50 miles through various neighborhoods of Boston. This is a family-friendly event and concludes with a block party with food, music, and an expo. ABC TMA members are encouraged to register as a team as well. Bike Commuting Tips If you are new to biking, map out a route first, a good website is: mapmyride and test ride your route on the weekend, the Charles River path is a great route for beginners Read up on common bicycle accidents so you can know how to avoid them; see our tips for biking safety Find a bike that you are comfortable with, an upright road bike with built in chain guards, fenders, and rear racks are great for com- muting but any bike you are comfortable riding will do You don’t need to be outfitted like Lance Armstrong to bike to work; many people wear their work clothes if their commute is short and don’t sweat a lot, others wear work out clothes and bring their work clothes on their bike or leave in the office ahead of time Always wear reflective gear and make sure your bike has a front and rear light Look out for bike safety and commuting workshops from ABC TMA Make sure to properly lock your bike frame and rear tire (if it has a quick release) to something secure 33 Broad Street 4 T: 617-502-6251 Suite 300 F: 617-502-6236 Boston, MA 02109 Www.abctma.com Commuter Services—Commuter Solutions

11. Car Sharing 11 Car Sharing is a model of car rental where you can rent a vehicle for a short period of time, often by the hour. It provides an instant access to a network of cars throughout the city, 24 hours-a-day, paying-per-trip, without commitment or inconvenience. Now, ABC TMA employees can qualify for discounts through the TMA’s Zipcar for Business account. ABC TMA members use car sharing to conduct business, and receive discounted rates as well as discounted mem- bership fees. About Zipcar: To use Zipcars, employees simply reserve the vehicle online, walk to the vehicle location, hold your Zipcard over the card reader, and drive away. Each reservation includes the cost of gas, parking, insurance and mileage. Reserve minutes or months in advance. Zipcar business members also take advantage of discounted membership & driving rates on over 1000 cars (in over 20 makes and models) strategically parked all over the Boston area.
