“COVID-19 CAN’T STOP US!” CAMP PROGRAMS Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp has been providing the magic of Camp to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities CAMP-IN-A-BOX for over 87 years. For many of our families and campers, this year was the first time that they haven’t been able to attend Camp in-person. Knowing this, our Programs Team worked tirelessly on recreating an at-home Camp experience! In June, MHKC brought Camp to each of our campers by providing an adaptive program called “Camp-In-A-Box.” This program uniquely recreated all of the “favorites” of summer Camp for our campers. Inside this box, campers found a personalized MHKC t-shirt to tie-dye, Ebenezer’s gold pouch and bandana craft, wood cookie, handmade friendship bracelet from a summer staff member, extensive activity book, and links to videos from our own Staff Infection Band. We were able to send this box to 650 campers who were enrolled in summer Camp for 2020 — along with all individuals on our waitlist — for no charge, thanks to the generous support of three funders. These pictures show the excitement and joy that our campers experienced from the programs that were offered in 2020: Camp-In-A-Box, January Winter Retreat, February Winter Retreat, and Virtual Programming.
