Caritas Jersey has been licensed by the UK’s Living Wage
Foundation to manage and co-ordinate the promotion of
a ‘Living Wage’ in Jersey. The Living Wage campaign is
one of Caritas’ three main projects - the other two being

to sign up as Living Wage employers is to play a part in
eradicating poverty in Jersey.
The Living Wage considers the cost of living, taxes and
the value of benefits available to working people on low
incomes. It aims to make sure that, on average, a worker
receiving the Living Wage rate, topped up by in-work
benefits, earns enough to be able to live with dignity and

During the past month, we have learnt about ‘ownership’
being a keyword in youth work practice. We like to let
our young people contribute to as many aspects of the
Project as possible, and Year 7 are currently planning their
forthcoming overnight stay at Crabbé. Amy’s pictured,
joining in with the letter-writing to parents.
Building work for the redevelopment at the First Tower
Youth & Community Centre continues at a tremendous
pace at the OTC building. There will be a dance room,
coffee bar and gaming area upstairs, and we can’t wait to
welcome you all when the site reopens sometime
after Easter.
During Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we
used emojis and paper cups to explore and talk about
feelings – did you know there are over 3,000 emojis?
Finally, our huge thanks must go to everyone at First
Tower Primary School, because while all the building
work has been going on at the Club we have been using
a part of the School. Our young people have really made
themselves at home, and the shelter has been turned into
a ‘chill-out grotto’.
If you’re interested in coming along and joining us at the
Youth Project, you can find up-to-date information by
searching Google for ‘First tower youth centre’.
