gardening season is upon us New gardens, no matter what type, are not like new electronics or cars where you can expect things to run smoothly simply because they are new. With proper care, your garden will get better with age. Don’t compare the results of your first year to your grandmother’s well established garden. The important thing is just to start! You’re not in this alone. There are trillions of microorganisms, worms, and other insects helping to make your garden flourish over time. They need a garden bed though! Excellent resources for your garden can be found at: https://www.gbbr.ca/gardens/ pickleball in honey harbour Residents of Honey Harbour have fundraised If you can see yourself participating in this dollars to support the to creation of 6 Pickle- fast growing sport we invite you to support ball courts at the Honey Harbour Park. the creation of Pickleball courts in Honey Har- bour by sponsoring. Place in a bucket of soapy water for 48+ hours. To attract natural predators of Spongy Moth you can plant native shrubs and flowers. From late June to August, large caterpillars may move down tree trunks during hot days. To tar- get these, you can create a ‘skirt trap’ - wrap a large piece of burlap around the trunk fastened by twine or rope around the middle, fold the top half of the burlap over the twine so there is overhang that the caterpillars can crawl under. Check the trap every afternoon and place cater- pillars and pupae in a bucket of soapy water for 48+ hours. Georgian Bay Times May 2022 3
