HARMONY BALL IN THE DARK
20 teams gathered at Kovan Sports Centre on 10 and 11
June 2017 to participate in the Harmony Ball in the Dark,
a street soccer competition that saw players of different
races and religions coming together to score for goals.

presented the coveted trophy to La Plata Juniors who
emerged as the champions for the event.

LAUNCH OF HARMONY TRAIN
Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat launched a Harmony-concept Train along
the North East Line on 26 June 2017. The launch was a collaboration between
Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society, National Youth Council and Moove Media.
The Harmony Train ran for 18 hours a day for a period of 6 weeks throughout
the Harmony Month of July, which is also Youth Month – a month dedicated
to celebrating youth energy, diverse talents, youth resilience and youth
contributions to community.
HARMONY MURAL BENEATH THE STARS
6 local and international students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts embarked on
an experiential journey to learn about Singapore’s multicultural diversity through the
elements of food, culture and play.
For three days, these students explored places of racial and religious interests and
found design inspirations for Harmony Mural Beneath the Stars, an initiative supported
by Youth Corps Singapore to create an artistic mural set out to transform the façade of
the iconic Red Bus located at the Youth Park Singapore.
Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of
Trade and Industry unveiled the new look of the Red Bus on 4 July 2017.

THKMS WELFARE SERVICES
| ANGSANA HOME @ PELANGI VILLAGE
Angsana Home @ Pelangi Village is a gazetted Welfare Home under the Destitute Persons Act.
The Home renders care and rehabilitation to destitute persons. It also operates an intake centre.
The Home can accommodate 180 main home residents and 20 intake centre residents.
Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society successfully recontracted the managing agent rights for Angsana
Home @ Pelangi Village in the last quarter of 2017 to run the Home for the next 3 years.
The model of care at the Home involves holistic assessment of our residents’ needs, fostering
individual care plans and interim goals, and empowering the residents with support and services.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS
In 2017, the Home fostered strategic
partnerships with various community agencies
such as WeCare Community Services, AWARE
Singapore, New Hope Community Services,
National Addictions Management Service
(NAMS), ISCOS, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
The established network will help to
complement rehabilitation, reintegration and
post-discharge efforts for the residents.
To better support the residents in coping

Moral Welfare Home is a gazetted welfare PROGRAMMES AND INITIATIVES

Development. Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society is
the managing agent for the Ministry and helps
to administer care, reception and rehabilitation
of destitute persons. 80% of the residents
are intellectually disabled and all of them are
diagnosed with multiple disabilities.

Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital (AMKH)
is a 360-bedded step-down care facility that HOSPITAL EXPANSION
is primarily focused on rehabilitative care.
The Hospital also provides sub-acute care, The Hospital began its two-phased building
dementia care as well as pre-terminal palliative expansion project in 2014 to cater to the
care for our patients. The aim is to help patients nation’s increasing demand for community

THYE HUA KWAN NURSING HOME LIMITED|
THYE HUA KWAN NURSING HOME @ HOUGANG
THK Nursing Home @ Hougang was
established since 3 October 2016 to provide
quality nursing care for up to 285 seniors,
including 114 beds for those with dementia.
The nursing home provides a person-centred
and safe environment to facilitate aging in the
community.
PROGRAMMES AND INITIATIVES
A series of programmes and community
partnerships are in place to keep the residents
engaged and actively stimulated to counter
the four major problems of loneliness,
boredom, despair and isolation that is a
common problem for many seniors staying in
residential care.
Regular engagement programmes have
been established with various schools within
the vicinity, such as Montfort School, Bedok
Green Secondary School and PCF Sparkletots
@ Hougang. Students from these schools
held regular performances and engagement
sessions with the residents.
Students and a parent volunteer from Monfort
School came over to teach the residents some
simple baking techniques

THK Nursing Home @ Hougang
also partnered the Institute of
Mental Health to participate in
the Common Video Consultation
Platform Project, initiated as part of
the Telehealth Projects by Integrated
Health Information Systems Pte Ltd
(IHiS). Video consultation services
allowed the residents to receive tele-
treatment remotely with doctors at
Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

THKNH HOME CARE SERVICES
Thye Hua Kwan Nursing Home Limited began providing Home Care Services since
April 2017 to serve clients who are not suitable for centre-based services. Home Care
Services help to support frail and homebound clients in areas such as personal hygiene,
housekeeping and mind-stimulation activities.

• Home Medical & Nursing programme serves
clients who require medical or nursing care due to
various chronic conditions or terminal illnesses.
• Home Personal Care Services provide help
in medication care, personal hygiene, mind-
stimulation activities, simple prescribed exercises,
elder-sitting and caregiver respite, as well as
running simple errands.
• Interim Care Services provides assistance in THKNH staff doing vital signs monitoring
nutrition and feeding, wound care, respiratory for a client
care, tube / catheter care and stoma care.
THK SENIOR CARE CENTRE @ KAKI BUKIT (BEDOK NORTH)
THK Senior Care Centre @ Kaki Bukit began operations in late
November 2016 to add on to THK Nursing Home Limited’s
eldercare services for the Intermediate Long Term Care sector. The
Centre aims to care for around 80 seniors during the day as it offers
a range of step-down care services to provide a conducive and
engaging environment for the elderly clients to stay active while
receiving medical care.

Maintenance Day Care & Centre-Based Nursing
The Maintenance Day Care Centre serves elderly clients
who are frail or physically disabled. Programmes and
activities run by our therapists allow them to maintain or
improve their general, physical and social well-being. The
programme also serves elderly who require nursing care
for wound-related problems and provides respite and
support for caregivers who require assistance in caring for
their loved ones.

The Dementia Day Care Centre serves elderly clients who
are diagnosed with dementia and living in the community.
The centre-based monitoring provides support and
assistance with their daily activities that will help to slow
down the deterioration process of their physical and
mental functions, so as to maintain their general and
social well-being. Similarly, caregiver support is also given
to caregivers who require respite or support in caring for
their loved ones.

Since October 2011, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC) was incorporated as a charity with IPC status to provide multiple social and welfare services to the community. THKMC provides assistance to the various groups in our community through more than 60 programmes and services for adults, families, elderly and persons with disability. PROGRAMMES AND INITIATIVES THK AUTISM CENTRE @ GEYLANG BAHRU BEGAN OPERATIONS To meet the increasing demand for services catering to persons with autism, THK Autism Centre @ Geylang Bahru was started to serve adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly for those who have just graduated from special schools or who are unable to find employment or placement in sheltered workshops.
