SOAR stands for Safety Organization Accep- tance Respect. The students rotated through four activities throughout the morning. Be- cause of the 12:45 dismissal, each ac- tivity lasted about an hour. The teachers selected the hobbies that they wanted to share with students. These activities included roping and rope braiding with Mrs. Christensen, canning and preserving with Mrs. Bo- lie, cooking (3 sessions) with Mrs. DeMers, cribbage with Mr. Juracek, Wii with Mrs. Bertram, spray ink with Mrs. Novotny, pedicures with Mrs. Rohde, pitch with Mrs. Ewing, basket- ball with Mr. Christensen, rockets with Students are learning how to make a rocket launch with Ms. Sparks. This was one of 12 activities that students could choose to do on SOAR Day. Ms. Sparks, frisbee goft with Mr. Hos- ford, and flower arrangements with Ms. Manderfeld. Golf team travels to Mobridge for first meet by Devan Dougherty The girls of Winner Area Golf team trav- eled to Mobridge for the Mobridge-Pol- lock Golf Tournament on Apr. 15. It was the first meet of the year and they were able to bring a Varsity and a JV team. The Varsity team would have brought in 1st if team trophies were given out. For individual scores, they placed top 10. Rylee Root got 1st with a 88, Kelbi Meiners pulled in 5th with a 98, Bren- nan Bachman tied for 8th, but with the tie breaker, got 9th with a 105, Devan Dougherty finished in 10th with a 106, Gracie Root had a 113. Lariat April 20, 2021 Page 6 Band and choir compete in contests by Ashlyn Hoffine In February the high school choir submitted their videos for the vocal contest. They were not able to go to the contest because of Covid, but they were able to send in videos. The results from the contest are as follows. Emma Van- denbark and Lilly Nelson earned a su- perior on their duet. Emma Vandebark received a superior on her solo. Eliza- beth Yeaman earned a superior on her solo. As a mixed group (whole choir), they received a superior. The band students competed in the instrumental contest. They also had to compete via video submission. Lariat April 20, 2021 Page 10 Colome starts track season by Riley Shippy Colome had their second meet of the season on Apr. 10 when they went to Winner for the Bill Pistulka Invi- tational. Colome didn’t win any events but they placed in multiple ones. Riley Shippy placed sixth in the 100m and 4th in the 200m dash. Kash Heath placed third in the 400m run with a 55.2, and Michael Supik placed fifth with a 55.7. Both these times were their personal records. Supik also placed seventh in the 800m run with a 2:20.8. Laprath was fifth in the mile run and third in the 2-mile run. Heath was seventh in the high jump. The medley relay of Shippy, Supik, Kash Heath, and Jonah Musser took third with a time of 4:11. The 4x800 of Laprath, Alec Thieman, Hayden Thie- man, and Musser brought home third. The 4x200 of Alec Thieman, Taitin Ringing Shield, Klayton Heath, and Hayden Thieman finished in eighth. The girls placed fifth in the 4x400m relay; run- ners included Morgan Gill, Tianna Larson, To- ree Ringing Shield, and Shaleena Kingsley. The Colome track team started their season on Apr. 8 when they traveled to Platte for the SCC Meet. They were originally supposed to have this meet Tuesday, but due to weather, it was postponed. Colome competed quite well by placing third in the boys’ standings and winning multiple events individually. Shippy won the 100m and 200m. Supik finished in second right behind Shippy in the 100m dash. Supik also placed second in long jump with an impressive jump of 19’5. Bertram won the high jump event with a jump of 5’7, and he was fifth in the 400. Laprath brought home second in the mile run and the 2-mile run. Hayden Thieman placed third in the 800. The medley relay of Shippy, Supik, Kash Heath, and Laprath won with a time of 4:11.67. Colome won the 4x400 relay; runners were Supik, Kash Heath, Ber- tram, and Shippy. The 4x200 relay finished fourth, and runners were Alec Thieman, Ringing Shield, Klayton Heath, and Hayden Thieman. The 4x800 re- lay took fourth, and the runners included Laprath, Klayton Heath, Alex Thieman, and Hayden Thieman. The girls placed fourth in the 4x400m relay; run- ners included Gill, Sophie Hofeldt, Ringing Shield, and Kingsley.
