COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION September 17th A Grain in Time Jonny Merikan The Inn • 2:00 pm Join Johnny as he demonstrates his creativity with woodworking. He will walk us through the process of using scrap wood and clock mechanisms to create a unique masterpiece that is beautiful and functional as well. All you need to know Valerie Hacker October 5th • 2:00 pm The Inn about Vincent Van Gogh Travel back in time with Valerie and learn all about the Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. November 20th Basic Crochet Techniques Betty Oswold The Gardens • 11:00 am Knitted and Crocheted textiles survived from as early as the 11th century. Join Betty and she shows us step by step how to begin the basics of a simple crochet pattern and how it transforms into a beautiful usable piece of work. Whether its a scarf or a blanket you are making, each is created with the start of a simple stitch. Black Lives Matter September 14th Vershonda Rivera Town Center Movement • 2:00 pm "Black Lives Matter is a decentralized movement advocating for non-violent civil disobedience in protest against incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against Black people." Join Vershonda in an informative discussion and learning tool to educate us in the importance of this monumental movement. Every Third Tuesday Chef Showcase Series Dining Services Team The Inn • 2:00 pm Are you ready for some delicious seasonal desserts? This semester, the dining team will teach us how to prepare a delicious banana chocolate chip cake, pumpkin spice cookies, warm apple dumplings, and holiday gingerbread cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Join us for these mouthwatering demonstrations and samples of seasonal delights.

Color we choose, whether it is to wear, paint our home or even place on our dinner plates, can have an effect on our disposition. Science shows that every color has an effect on our brain and our moods. Join Jill as she explores the various elements of colors and how they have a relationship to our mental outlook. November 10th Common Dream Symbols Jill Neri The Inn • 2:00 pm Have you ever wondered what your dreams could mean? Let's explore some common symbolic meanings behind images we dream about. Although we consciously cannot control our dream patterns, knowledge of these images in our dreams have very specific meanings. Having an understanding of our dream symbols can be helpful to our everyday interactions. Country Line Dancing Thelma Martin October 7th • 11:00 am The Gardens Kick up your heels, put on your cowboy hat, and get ready to dance, dance, dance! Join Thelma as she teaches you how to, (as they say Texas style),"boot scootin boogie." Learn several of the latest country line dances from the electric slide to the waltz around Texas and more. Every 1st & 3rd Monday Craft Corner Series Tamera Smith The Gardens • 1:30 pm As the holiday season comes around, everyone feels a little crafty. Step into our craft corner, and let the creativity begin. This series will cover a variety of crafts such as: fall door decor, pine cone bird feeders, leaf bowls, Pumpkin mason jars, homemade scented wax cubes, Thanksgiving door hangers, card making and holiday wreath making. Every Wednesday Edible Creations Series Tamera Smith The Gardens • 2:00 pm Tammy is extremely dedicated when it comes to baking and cooking. Join Tamera shares her talents with old and new recipes which are sure to tickle your taste buds. Learn how to prepare pesto from our very own garden, fried Zucchini, homemade chocolate pudding, tri colored pasta salad, snicker-doodles, dutch apple bars, s'more casserole, homemade applesauce, sweet potato pie, pumpkin smoothies, pumpkin pie dip, cornbread stuffing, green bean casserole, gingerbread pudding, candy cane cheesecake, peppermint bark and Christmas Blondie. Everyone is invited to lend a hand, or simply join in the taste test that follows each class.

This tasty dip has a lot going for it, in terms of nutrition as well as taste. Find out how easy it is to make your own hummus, and all the different ways it can be prepared. Learn the history of the Chickpea and how hummus came to be a great healthy snack. September 21st Hidden Treasures Ceil Buckley The Inn • 2:00 pm Whether you travel North, South, East or West, America hosts some of the most breathtaking National Parks to explore and experience. Join Ceil as she take you on a journey across the region with beautiful footage, splendid photos and a brief history of our glorious countryside and showcased national parks. Historical Jazz Music Tamera Smith October 1st • 2:00 pm The Gardens Take a walk down the streets of New Orleans with Tamera as she teaches you the history of the ever popular Jazz music and how this time classic style is still popular today. From Louis Armstrong to Kenny G, Jazz is not only historic but still alive today in the music industry. Second Wednesday in History Through Music Tom Dunn September and October Town Center • 2:00 pm During Tom's musical series, you will learn facts and the biographies about the history of the song and of the singers that made these songs come to life. (These will be an outdoor-held series in which more information will be posted in Town Center.) Series 1. Music Styles of the Caribbean: Tom will take you on a journey about the history of music that influenced the Caribbean Islands. Series 2. Broadway Medleys: Go back in time and listen to the songs that you grew up with and learn who wrote them and the singers that made the songs famous. First Thursday in Holiday Craft Series Debi May October, November and Town Center December • 1:30 pm Lets celebrate the holidays with a creative, fun craft series with Debi. She will walk you through a Halloween themed craft, a special project for Thanksgiving and a delightful Christmas craft for either yourself to display or for giving as a gift.

She will present a four part craft series. These interactive classes will help put you in the holiday spirit and showcase the crafter in us all. Homemade Wendy's September 9th The Inn Ceil Buckley Frosties • 2:00 pm Wendy's is definitely famous for their hamburgers but we all love to finish a meal with a cool, refreshingly known Wendy's Frosty! Join Ceil as she shows you just how easy this delicious dessert can be made and learn a little history of the famous founder of Wendy's restaurant . October 12th • 2:00 pm The Inn Jack-O-Lantern Carving Jill Neri & Theresa Emler October 15th • 2:00 pm The Gardens If you're looking for some inspiration for this year's Halloween carving, look no further. We've collected some of the most spectacular examples of jack-o'-lantern art, including celebrity faces, Chinese dragons and scary pickled pumpkins. Join Theresa and Jill to see how their creativity shines as they teach the art of pumpkin carving. Everyone will have the chance to carve a pumpkin and put it out on display. Learning The Basics of Shannon Keys December 3rd • 2:00 pm The Inn Playing The Ukulele The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese Machete, a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants. It gained great popularity in the United States in the 20th century, and from there it spread internationally. Join Shannon as she shares more about this iconic instrument and demonstrates how to play it. November 13th Marble-Made Art Gina Miles The Gardens • 11:00 am Who knew that three simple household items could create such a beautiful array of art work. Gina will teach you step by step this simple and fun technique using paper, marbles and paint. Take your art home and hang it up, or it will make a great gift.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION 1st and 3rd Wednesday Tonja Scales and Debi Mixology 101 of the month Town Center May • 3:00 pm Back in the day we called them Bartenders, but with the current times companies began tweaking names to embellish titles, bartenders are now known as Mixologists. Join Tonja and Debi as the create unique and tantalizing cocktails. They will be teaching us the mixing techniques along with the unique ingredients for some of the most creative concoctions being served throughout the tavern's today. No Yeast Bread Baking Debi May October 16th • 2:00 pm Town Center This simple no yeast bread recipe is easy to make and absolutely delicious. It's a dense yet soft loaf with great flavor that slices easily and is perfect for dipping into soups and chili's or for making open faced sandwiches. In only 1 hour and with 6 ingredients we will be slicing into a delicious loaf of bread. Pine Cone Tree December 9th • 2:00 pm The Inn Ornament Ceil Buckley December 16th • 1:30 The Gardens Demonstration pm Have you ever made your own holiday ornaments through the years? Ceil will be bringing back a long time tradition of making homemade tree decorations for the holiday season. This interactive class will give you the opportunity to bring home a hand made gift to keep or share. Proper Hand Washing, September 3rd • 2:00 pm The Inn Sanitizing and Masking Michelle Forte September 3rd • 2:30 pm The Gardens Etiquette September 3rd • 3:00 pm Town Center As we enter a new challenge during the Covid pandemic, certain measures have been implemented throughout the world, state and our community. These simple, yet effective routines can assist in maintaining the safety of ourselves and others. Join Michelle as she walks everyone through the importance of taking some simplistic measures that can have extreme safety effects in keeping us healthy. September 25th Razzle Dazzle Nails Teshimmi Scales The Inn • 2:00 pm From glitter to jewels, learn how to embellish your nails and go beyond a basic polish. Join Teshimmi as she shows us step by step how to beautify your nails with wonderful accents.

Learn the many ways we can make simple changes to our daily routines which can have a lasting effect on our future and the future of generations to come. Tamera Smith and Reggae Music Defined November 6th • 1:30 pm The Gardens Thelma Martin Learn about this music genre that originated in the 1960's. This stylistic form of music is popular world wide. Join Tamera and Thelma as they explore the history of Reggae and demonstrate the cool sounds of this unique music style native to Jamaica . October 19th Seasonal Wreath Decor November 16th The Inn Misty Woodcox Series December 14th • 2:00 pm Adding a decorative wreath to any area in your home has now been made easier than ever. Join Misty as she teaches and demonstrates simplistic ways of creating seasonal wreaths that can be displayed or even given as gifts. Sensory Stimulation Every 2nd & 4th Tuesday Tamera Smith The Gardens Series • 2:00 pm Sensory stimulation awakens us, encourages socialization which can lead us down memory lane, evoking a positive reflection. Join Tamera as she awakens the senses of sight, sound, smell, and touch with her sensory stimulation series. This will be a fun interactive series to enhance all our senses. Shot Glass Cheesecake November 12th Jordan Forshay The Inn Treats • 2:00 pm No time to bake a cheesecake? No problem! Learn the simple way to make these tiny no-bake sweet treats sure to be a crowd pleaser! They are perfect for a quick, delicious, bite sized snack. Simple Seasonal Color November 30th Jill Neri The Inn Analysis • 2:00 pm Have you ever put a garment on and realized how much it makes your face, eyes and skin glow? Based on the four seasons and a simple analysis of our features, we can learn the right colors to wear to enhance our inner beauty. Join Jill with this fun interactive class to determine what colors best suit you.

Theresa Emler and November 24th The Blooming Onion The Inn Jill Neri • 2:00 pm If you have ever been to a carnival then you remember all the unique delicious treats. The blooming onion is one of the most popular features not only at carnivals, but also featured at popular restaurants. Let's get in the kitchen with Theresa and Jill and learn this simple technique of using a basic onion to make a mouth watering delight. The Making of a Gourmet Theresa Emler and October 29th • 2:00 pm The Inn Chocolate Apple Jill Neri With a bountiful of apples during this season and festive occasions to boot, why not utilize both reasons to create a attractive treat sure to please everyone. Lets have some fun together learning how to make these delightful and delicious snacks perfect for any occasion. The Story Behind Bolt Theresa Emler October 22nd • 2:00 pm The Inn Castle At the turn-of-the-century, George C. Boldt, set out to build a full size Rhineland castle in Alexandria Bay, on picturesque Heart Island. The grandiose structure was to be a display of his love for his wife, Louise. Join Theresa as she takes you through the history and picturesque photos of this beautiful attraction in the 1000 islands. The Thousand Islands September 10th through the eyes of Debi May Town Center • 1:30 pm Surveyors Take a journey with Debi as she explores the region known as the Thousand Islands. From famous Islands, to the construction of the Thousand Island Bridge connecting the USA to Canada. Come explore and learn with Debi the fascinating history of this beautiful area.

She will be teaching us all how to make these delicious layered desserts which are not only pleasing to the eye but delicious as well. Everyone will be given the opportunity to assemble their own, and of course, savor the creations!
Faculty Biographies NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Misty Woodcox Seasonal Wreath Decor Series Misty Woodcox is the Marketing Director at Grande' Vie. In her spare time, Misty is an avid crafter who loves to create unique and beautiful pieces from basic household items to reveal a festive twist worth for gift giving or simply displayed on her own front door. Valerie Hacker All you need to know about Vincent Van Gogh Valerie is a committed resident care associate who has a passion not only for cats, but for the works of Vincent Van Gogh as well. In her spare time, she has studied and admired this famous painter for many years. Vershonda Rivera Black Lives Matter Movement Vershonda is a dedicated mother of two. She is also a dedicated member of the Grande Vie Team working as a Medication Technician. In her spare time she loves to play Bingo and enjoy time with her children. Thelma Martin Reggae Music Defined Thelma is a Resident Care associate who has a love of music. Her family is Native to Jamaica and Thelma has grown up listening to the smooth sounds of reggae Music since she was a child. Jonny Merikan A Grain in Time Jonny is the Maintenance Director at Grande' Vie who in his spare time loves hunting, fishing, painting and woodworking. Jonny has an artistic ability to transform simple objects into beautiful works of art in which he loves to share with others. Proper Hand washing, Sanitizing and Masking Michelle Forte Etiquette Michelle is the Resident Care Director at Grande' Vie and is very dedicated to the well being of the residents. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Erica Mangers Holiday Crafting with Pinterest Series Erica Mangers is the Executive Director at Grande'Vie. In her free time she enjoys utilizing Pinterest to create educational and fun activities for her three children. Erica has worked as an LPN nurse for several years and is enjoying serving the Watermark Community with her valued role as Executive Director.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Shannon Keys Learning The Basics of Playing The Ukulele Shannon makes a wonderful new addition to the Grande'Vie Dining Staff. Shannon learned to play the Ukulele at the age of seven from her grandfather and enjoys sharing her talent. Tonja Scales Mixology 101 Tonja Scales is the Dining Services Director at Grande' Vie. In her spare time she loves to entertain with friends and family. Alongside cooking, she enjoys to get creative with cocktails as well. Teshimmi Scales Razzle Dazzle Nails Teshimmi is a Resident Care Associate at Grande'Vie. She enjoys dancing, shopping and keeping up with the newest trends with hair, makeup and nails. Jill Neri Color Psychology Jill is a member of the Community Life Team at Grande' Vie. In her spare time she loves to shop, walk, kayak and decorate. She has studied the effects in which color can have on our behaviors, attitudes and moods in general and has implemented these findings into her own life. Tammy Smith Edible Creations Series Tammy is an associate of the the Community Life Team at Grande' Vie. She is a busy mother and loves to be creative and healthy in her cooking. She enjoys trying new dishes and creating her own twist on some basic recipes. Ceil Buckley Pine Cone Tree Ornament Demonstration Ceil Buckley is the Community Life Assistant at Grande'Vie. Ceil has a passion for teaching crafts that she has learned through the years. Ceil gets a lot of her ideas from the internet and craft books that are delivered to her home. Jordan Forshay Wine Glass Trifles Jordan is the Case Manager at Grande'Vie and in her spare time loves to cook and make desserts. She learned to make this fun dessert while she was in college. Trifles are a beloved dish in the south. Every time she make trifles, she says it reminds her to enjoy the sweet things in life.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Debi May The Thousand Islands Through the Eyes of Surveyors Debi is a member of the Community Life team. She loves history and comes from a family of Teachers. In her spare time, Debi loves to walk, swim and travel. She also enjoys researching and discovering unique history throughout New York State. She owns a beautiful cabin in the Thousand Islands where she learned the history of the Thousand Islands. Theresa Emler The Story Behind Boldt Castle Theresa is the Community Life Director at Grande'Vie, who enjoys traveling and camping. She has always been fascinated with stunning architecture and the stories behind some of these unique structures. Gina Miles Marble Art Gina Miles is a Resident Care Aide at Grande'Vie. Having three sons, Gina always had to come up with a craft that was fun and exciting for her kids to learn. Her favorite craft to teach is Marble Art that she learned from a friend. Tom Dunn History Through Music Tom was raised by two musically influenced parents. His father was a great singer and dancer, and his mother was a piano teacher and church organist. Following 3 degrees in Music, Tom taught elementary vocal music for 32 years. Tom is now enjoying his retirement, doing many shows each month, and traveling around sharing his love of music. He feels he is truly blessed to continue doing what he enjoys.
