Our last newsletter was devoted to the work that our fantastic P&C committees past and present have done and their continuing contributions to our school. Our school is fortunate to have such dedicated family and community members who are willing to put their time and effort into supporting our school. Thank you Staff Movements We are very saddened that Mrs Kim Bertuola will be leaving us at the end of next week to take up a position at Narrogin Senior High School. I would like to thank Kim for her work here at the school and wish her well in her new position. Mrs Ann Ward will begin her new position at the school on Monday 23rd August. We are very fortunate to have someone of Mrs Ward’s experience join our staff. School Grounds and Minor Works We are very pleased that many of the projects that have been undertaken over the last few months have been completed. The veranda railings have been painted after being put on hold while the playground was resurfaced. Room ten has been painted which completes the refurbishment of that room. Science Week Science week will begin on Monday 16th August with the theme of Food- Different by Design. National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. It provides the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. We will once again be holding our Science Challenge during this week. We hope that our “Dress as a Scientist” day will help our students to look for science all around them and see that everyday people in everyday jobs use science. Please remember that dressing up is always optional for students and families. Book Week Book week begins on Monday 23rd August with this year’s theme of “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”. We will be holding our annual dress up parade on Library Day which is Tuesday 24 th August. We are off to busy start to Term 3. We are lucky to have PRIME Mathematics 5 days a week and have refined our understanding about fractions, learning all about equivalent fractions, mixed numerals and improper fractions. We are studying the Tim Winton novel Blueback and have immersed ourselves in Longboat Bay and Abel Jackson’s world. We are hooked (pardon the pun) on this very descriptive story. We are learning all about Figurative Language and we are experimenting with using it in our own writing. During our break times there is an industrious group of us growing our own crops up in the old vegie-patch. We have worked out how to drain our sodden crops from all this rain and have been working on saving this water for future use. We now need to work on a plan of how we will harvest this crop in Term 4!
