Watervliet Lodge No. 1500 A Fraternal Organization The Voice of 1500 MARCH 2021 A Message from the Exalted Ruler CALANDER OF EVENTS March 2021 Thank You All Very Much for This Rewarding 2020-2021 Elk Year -- You Did It!!! 1 - Lodge meeting 7 PM 3 - Bingo 6:30 PM It’s hard to believe that this is my final letter to you. Just as when I 4 - Darts 7 PM was your ER in 2018-2019, this Lodge Year from April 1, 2020 Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM through March 31, 2021 has passed by extremely fast. Many thanks 8 - PER Meeting 7 PM to all of you, including Ellen and all my family, and all Lodge offic- Ladies Aux meeting 7 pm ers, for all your support. But it doesn’t seem right that it’s been a full 10 - Bingo 6:30 PM year! 11 - Darts 7 PM Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM Where did the time go? It seems like it was just a few weeks ago 15 - Lodge meeting 7 PM that we were newly-elected officers planning the agenda and menu 17 - Bingo 6:30 PM for our upcoming installation ceremony. We humbly looked forward to overseeing our numer- 18 - Darts 7 PM ous traditional Lodge events and activities. For part of the year, our Lodge would have the Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM unique honor of having our own PERs Colleen Quackenbush and Patty Gardner serve togeth- 24 - Bingo 6:30 PM er as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and State Vice President, respectively. This would be 25 - Darts 7 PM especially noteworthy since June 4, 2020 would mark the start of the 20 th year of women as Elk Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM members in our Lodge. 31 - Bingo 7 PM In short, it looked to be a tremendously busy and rewarding year! April 2021 COVID-19. Yet, before we could even be installed as new officers, our Lodge closed after our March 16th Lodge meeting. The coronavirus pandemic, or COVID-19, had invaded our country 1 - Darts 7 PM and all Lodge plans were cancelled! Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM When we reopened 2 months later, I prayed constantly: This year, please let us survive, so 2 - Good Friday that in future years we can thrive. Who could have predicted that we would wear face masks, 4 - Happy Easter! distance ourselves, and constantly sanitize our hands and all Lodge surfaces for the entire 2020- 5 - Lodge meeting 7 pm 21 Elk year and beyond? But… 7 - Bingo 6:30 pm 8 - Darts 7 PM You Did It! You remained steadfast in your solemn and binding obligation as Elks! In so doing, you made us stronger! Thank you so much for: Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM 12 - PER Meeting 7 PM • Staunchly following Lodge health and safety guidelines, Ladies Aux meeting 7 pm • Paying your own dues and graciously helping our delinquent members; 14 - Bingo 6:30 PM 15 - Darts 7 PM • Sponsoring new members and constantly seeking other interested persons; Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM • Upholding our Elks pledges to remember our members who have passed, veterans, and all 19 - Lodge meeting 7 pm those in need; 21 - Bingo 6:30 pm • Volunteering as officers, trustees, PER mentors and coaches, and committee chairs 22- Darts 7 PM and members to conduct and join in all Elk fundraisers and activities. Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM As COVID forced cancellation of event after event, I was grateful that I was the ER rather than 28 - Bingo 6:30 pm someone who has not yet experienced the spectacle and pageantry of Elkdom. I have many fond 29 - Darts 7 PM Queen of Hearts 7:45 PM memories of representing you in 2018-2019 at galas and festivities in San Antonio, Buffalo, and elsewhere. Thank You, All! However, after witnessing your strength and resilience during this 2020-2021 COVID year of chaos and uncertainty, I can only thank you again for all that you did and all you continue to do. It has been a true honor and privilege to serve as your ER in what may have been our most challenging year. I look forward to joining you in helping incoming ER Joe Benoit and all the officers as we continue to make our Lodge the best it can be. You did it! We did survive and we will again thrive! May God bless you all!

Page 4 The Voice of 1500 ATTENTION MEMBERS! Have you ever considered being an Officer of the Lodge? Watervliet Lodge is in need of new Officers to help lead us through Next year and the years to come. We need new Officers with fresh ideas. Step up and become an officer with me. I will be Exalted Ruler next year. I was Exalted Ruler 31 years ago. I will be there to help you. The Past Exalted Rulers are suppose to be an advisory organization, we are not meant to run the Lodge. This is your Lodge, step up and help it to be the best lodge that it can be. Contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached by e- mail at benoitjo4457@yahoo.com or by text at (518) 577-2268. Joseph Benoit, PDDGER, Est Leading Knight Looking for help and ideas! Ideas include: • A takeout breakfast- breakfast sandwich or pancakes and eggs etc. • A takeout dinner -meatloaf, spaghetti, etc. • Raffles Anything else you can think of. We need people to chair the event and cook or ask someone who can cook for a large number. These monies will help us to maintain our Lodge and continue to remain open and solvent.
