                                                                     1880’s to 1913 my great-uncles wrote dozens of letters in an
                                                                     attempt to prove a direct line from James, second son of William
                                                                     Lamb and to a Rev. Compoon in Philadelphia who collected much
                                                                     the same fees and assignments from the Lamb cousins that Mr.
                                                                     B. O. Corey did from the Drake cousins.
                                                                           Was this the popular family history flim-flam of a century
                                                                     ago? If my humble family of Western Pennsylvania fell victim to
                                                                     this and if the prominent Day family of Dunkirk was involved, how
                                                                     many other families have a history that includes the possibility
         from the Day Family papers at Reed Library

         The Chautauqua County Historical Society provides a wonderful collection of resources for the genealogist. Included in the
Bowman Collection at McClurg Museum in Westfield, maintained by CCHS, are several reports addressed to the Chautauqua County
Clerk from 1836 to 1847. These reports listed persons released from New York State Prisons. The following list was extracted from those
reports and included those sentenced in Cattaraugus or Chautauqua County. Everyone on this list served their time at the New York
State Prison at Auburn.
