        A NEW BEGINNING FOR 2021

The Christmas and New Year activities saw the res-
idents coming together with their Sunnymeade
family. We celebrated our todays and tomorrows,
and reminisced of family and friends coming to-
gether for Christmas. It has been an incredibly in-
teresting and challenging journey for everyone
 over 2020. Here's hoping 2021 is a year of life's
blessings with a brighter and sunnier future.

Tony our DT Co-ordinator & the
                       ‘Sunnymeade Singers’ (choir)
                      entertained our residents over
Christmas & New Years events. They
have also recently produced their 1st
recorded CD & are now planning
                         their 2nd CD for 2021.

                                     Message from M
As we prepare to say farewell to 2020 and to welcome
2021, I have found a few new letters of the alphabet
that have become as familiar as B (birth), M (marriage)
and D (death) and to me they are C (containment and
Covid), S (separation and social distancing), PPE
(personal protective equipment or prayer, prepare, es-
cape), L (love and lonely), F (fear and friendship) and T (trust and thank-
fulness). Personally, I am thankful that I live in a state that has taken the
threat of the Covid virus seriously and acted to try and keep us all safe,
even though some people have gone through very tough times with loss-
es of all imaginable types.
I would like to thank our Sunnymeade family who have done their very
best to keep our residents safe. A big thank you goes especially to our life
style therapists who do a marvelous job with keeping a diverse and chal-
lenging activities every day.
Our plans for the Christmas Season are all about families, the Sunny-
meade family, God’s family and the Walker extended family. Les and I
wish you all the best for a Blessed, Joyful Christmas and a Safe, Happy
New Year that continues to bless us all. M

Welcome everyone to the next edition of the newsletter. I have recently been on six
week’s leave and I am delighted to say I left a great team of clinicians looking after the
residents and staff while I was away. Mandy our Clinical Coordinator, stepped in to my
role with ease and had full support of all the registered staff. Feedback for Mandy is
that she has been very approachable and staff members. Until next time, Pat

                                  CARON’S CORNER
Happy New Year! We would like to welcome all the new residents and families who have taken up
residency at Sunnymeade since our last article in the newsletter. “Great Things about Ageing”
through the eyes of Dawn French (better known for her role as the Vicar of Dibley). Dawn says it is
a privilege to get older. A lot of people fear growing older but, if you ask us, the ageing process
brings some great benefits, too.
1.The relationships you have are ones you’ve honed over years – Fear of missing out and
spreading yourself too thin can hamper friendships in youth, when making lots of new friends
whenever possible, and navigating fallouts, are the order of the day. But in later life, things are
often calmer and your tolerance levels sharper. You don’t have the time, energy or patience for
friends who treat you like a free therapist, or don’t show up when you need them. Instead, with
more decades under your belt, it’s possible to invest time in select relationships that feed your
soul, make you feel happy and that really matter.
2.You generally have more money at your disposal – While money isn’t the route to all happi-
ness, with increased years often comes the comfort of increased financial security (and paid-off
mortgage). Plus, with experience, you’re also likely to be savvier with your money than you were
  in your 20’s.
3.There’s less emphasis on the importance of looks – In adolescence it’s easy to be your own
harshest critic, and relatively normal to spend hours in front of the mirror trying to disguise
“imperfections” with layers of make-up and hairspray. Being older and wiser can really improve
body confidence, because at 60, 70, 80, who really gives a fig if a stranger in the supermarket
  sees you bare-faced?!
4.There’s more chance to gain perspective – In the latter half of life, in all probability, you’ve
had your fair share of break-ups, bereavements, health issues, and family dramas and, as a re-
sult, sweating the small stuff is way down on the emotional to-do list. At this stage, your
strengths and weaknesses are clearer, as is your self-awareness, and you have more emotional
tools to deal with whatever life decides to throw at you.
5.Comparison culture has loosened its grip – Life is finite – a fact that becomes clearer as
you grow older, and one that really erodes any worries you used to harbour around what other
people are doing with their lives. You’ve got your own to focus on after all, and that’s what’s im-
portant. Who has time for jealousy and envy?
6.You’re not afraid to say ‘no’ – One of the best things about growing older is that you
seemingly have more licence to say exactly what you think, and that includes saying no to things
you don’t want to do. Spending your time on the things you love, and keeping your sanity in
check, is way more important than burning yourself out for other people.
7.It can be easier to find the joy in small things – Simple things like enjoying a cup of coffee
with friends, taking a long walk in nature and seeing the grandkids can take on greater signifi-
cance than material things, the rat race of trying to get ahead at work, climbing the property lad-
der and the pressure to track down a life partner. With age – if you’re lucky – comes the time
and space to appreciate the little everyday things that much more.

Until we meet again, take care,
 Caron and Ra

                                          Hawks Bowls 11th January 2021
2021 has started the year off with the first
months tournament held at Keith lounge.
Residents were sluggish to begin with but as
the morning progressed, the games became
more interesting. Some new faces joined the
Hawks with some real talent . A quick morning
game with most going to 2 rounds. The finals
gave us an exciting match and all eyes were on
the final 4. Neville Roginson was the Bowls
Tournament winner and Barry Waller the run-
ner up. Congratulations to all players.

   Lakers Bowls Update January…
The 2021 tournament has started with some
interesting new players. Residents cheered
each other on through their first game of the
year and discussed who to look out for. As
the players got to the semi finals, one of the
previous champions came through to make it
to the Finals. The winner was Phyllis Howie
and runner up was Margaret Parkes. Congrat-
ulations to everyone.
