COVID-19 Surcharge

 Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the BSA has notified all
registrants scheduled to attend one of the National High-Adventure Bases of a
one-time COVID-19 surcharge fee of $50 per participant. This fee will offset the
additional costs associated with operating High-Adventure Bases in accordance
with CDC, state and local guidelines and precautionary measures intended to
    keep all participants safe.
 This surcharge is necessary because the additional expenses associated with
addressing COVID-19 were not accounted for when the 2021 High-Adventure
Base fees were set 12-18 months ago. We are notifying participants now so
that you have a few months’ notice before the charge is applied.
 The Covid-19 surcharge fee has been added to accounts in February/March
2021 prior to final payments being due for the reservations.

FIRST AID REQUIREMENTS

              • FIRST AID AND CPR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED 1 person

              • Wilderness First Aid for 2021

Important • The Summit will be providing Wilderness First Aid Training and CPR to all
staff that work in a program that requires WFA and CPR this summer.

Safety Each crew will be accompanied by a staff member with training. This will
complete the WFA and CPR training requirements for these programs.
Additionally, we encourage each crew to seek out an online training that

Information
will give them another adult who can assist in responding to emergencies
                in the wilderness.
              • Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification will continue to be
required for backcountry adventures including trek programs and high
adventure base participation. As a reminder, a current CPR/AED
certification is a prerequisite for a WFA course.
              • Through March 2021, please review options for NCAP accredited local
council camps and National High Adventure Bases via a blended offering
                by ECSI: https://www.ecsinstitute.org/scouting-wfa
              • Note: Online-only WFA courses do not meet the WFA requirement.

This course is the best place for adults
and teens to start on their path to
                          understanding all-terrain vehicles and
                          safe riding strategies. The course
                          includes videos, pictures, and
interactive games to make it a fun and
                          effective learning experience. During
the course, users take progress quizzes
                          and receive a certificate upon
                          successful completion. The entire
course takes approximately 2.5 hours to
complete. You can stop at any point
and your progress will be saved so that
you can return and pick up where you
                          left

Either print the certificate or take a

ATV riding requires protection for
head, eyes, hands, and feet, flying
debris, or contact with foliage.
Although complete protection is not
possible, knowing what to wear and
how to wear it can make you feel
more comfortable when you ride and
reduce the chance of injury. Never
operate an ATV without:
a quality motorcycle helmet
eye protection
“over the ankle” boots
gloves

long pants
long-sleeved shirt or jacket.
Support vehicle & food
 We will provide a large “dry bag” for
the gear you want on the trek
    (toiletries, sleeping gear, clothes).
There will be a support trailer
    transporting your gear, tents, kitchen,
food and sometimes fuel to each
    campsite daily.
 When away from Base camp, breakfast
and dinner will be cooked at the
campsites by your crew and your
lunch will be somewhere on the trail.
This is a team effort, and everyone
    should share the responsibilities

Crew Leader A well-qualified Scout or Venturer should be
selected as crew leader before training begins. The crew
leader is a key person for a successful Summit experience
and the Advisor must work closely with this person.
Chaplain’s Aide The Summit strongly recommends one
crew member be asked to serve as a Chaplain Aide.
Someone who has earned or is working on their
religious award would be ideal for this position. The

POSITIONS rules designed to meet every situation you will
encounter in the outdoors. Instead, they are a way of
thinking about how we use and impact the
environment, which guides us to make the best
decisions possible in the outdoors ensuring we preserve
the land for others to enjoy. (appendix 7 = The Summit
