Specially designed for a group of four golfing enthusiasts, this luxurious nine-day programme is
based around attendance at The 147th Open Championship, which in 2018 will make a welcome return
to Carnoustie on the stunning east coast of Scotland.
The programme includes attendance at the final day of The Open and the chance to play golf on some
of Scotland’s finest courses in East Lothian and St Andrews as well as exploring the atmospheric
streets of Edinburgh. Accommodation is provided in two truly luxurious properties, ensuring a
wonderfully relaxing retreat at the end of each action-packed day.
Day One: Sunday 15th July - Arrival in Edinburgh
On arrival at Edinburgh Airport be met and welcomed by your experienced local chauffeur-guide
who will provide a safe and comfortable journey into the city centre.
Edinburgh, sometimes referred to as the “Athens of the North”, is one of the most beautiful cities in
Europe. It has two distinct areas: the Old Town, dominated by a medieval fortress, and the neo-
classical New Town, dating from the 18th century. The harmonious connection of these two
contrasting historic areas, each with many important buildings, is what gives the city its unique
character and saw it awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 1995.
Check in to your first accommodation, a luxury hotel in the true sense of the word. While many
Edinburgh hotels claim to have city landmarks on their doorstep, few can say their own doorstep is
a landmark. The iconic Balmoral Hotel is stylish, modern, and elegant. This is evident from the

Day Two: Monday 16th July - Explore Edinburgh
Accompanied by an expert local guide, explore the city on foot.
Visit Edinburgh Castle – from its volcanic rock, it towers over the city, every inch a mighty fortress
and defender of the nation. Step inside the ancient walls and learn of the royalty who lived and died
here and the struggles for control of the nation.
This iconic fortress has had a lively history to say the least. It has been marked by violence, political
and religious intrigue, and the rise and fall of monarchs.
As a military building and the most prestigious building in Scotland’s capital, it has been captured
and recaptured many times and is perhaps the most besieged place in Britain. Taking the castle wasn’t
just a tactical coup for Scotland’s enemies but a blow to morale, self-esteem, and the pride of the Scots.
Later, take a stroll down The Royal Mile, which lies at the heart of the Old Town. This is arguably one
of the most famous streets in the world. Today, it is peppered with stores selling cashmere goods and
hand crafted silver jewellery. However, in centuries gone by it was a different story: delving into the
Old Town is like leafing through the pages of a dusty historical novel, as each era unfolds with its
own legends and characters.
The city is full of interesting places to explore. Your guide, with their local insider knowledge, can
offer advice for visits to interest you and will explain and expand on the city’s rich history and
heritage like no book can with memorable stories and fun facts.

Day Three: Tuesday 17th July – The 1st tee
While accompanied by your chauffeur-guide travel to East Lothian, a region renowned for its golf
courses. Choose to play one of the following highlights:
Gullane No. 1, a championship course which offers dramatic coastal views and a golfing challenge
to savour. Golf has been played here for over 350 years. The course snakes across Gullane Hill
from where views of East Lothian, Edinburgh, and Fife are spectacular. Greens, fairways and
bunkers are all superb and the course presents one of the best challenges in Scotland.
North Berwick, an Open qualifying venue which is one of the best and most scenic links courses in
Scotland with views over the Isle of May, the islands of Fidra and Craigleith, the Bass Rock, and
across the Forth to Fife. The course is sprinkled with top-notch holes and rewards strategy and
guile rather than power hitting. It starts and finishes at the clubhouse within the town, having
wound its way along the Firth of Forth. There are stunning views over white sandy beaches,
islands and across to the hills of the East Neuk of Fife.
Prior to returning to Edinburgh, perhaps pause in the charming town of North Berwick. It was
formerly the ferry port carrying pilgrims on their way to St Andrews across the forth Estuary to
Earlsferry.
You may also like to visit the imposing cliff top ruins of Tantallon Castle. Built about 1370 by William,
1st Earl of Douglas, it was one of the chief strongholds of the “Red” Douglases, Earls of Angus.
Defended on three sides by steep sea cliffs and on the fourth by its massive red sandstone 12ft thick
curtain wall, it made a formidable fortress. Surviving many a siege, it was only in 1651 that it fell to
Cromwell following a 12-day battle.

Day Four: Wednesday 18th July - St Andrews
Accompanied by your chauffeur-guide, depart Edinburgh and travel to the ancient town of St
Andrews.
As you cross the Forth Estuary on the Forth Road Bridge, look right and see one of Scotland’s major
landmarks, the Forth Rail Bridge, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built between 1883 and
1890 by Sir John Fowler, Benjamin Baker, and over 4,500 men, and was considered to be an impressive
feat of engineering: the most ambitious of its kind.
Continue to St. Andrews, which has its place firmly in the history books as being the home of golf.
Take your first glimpse of the famed fairways of the Old Course, Swilcan Bridge and the Royal and
Ancient Clubhouse. Browse the Tom Morris Store opened by the golfing great himself in 1866, making
it the oldest golf shop in the world. Situated yards from the “Old Lady” is the British Golfing
Museum. Step inside to explore its unsurpassed collection of memorabilia, which tells the story of
golf from the Middles Ages through to the present day.
Perhaps visit the famous Jigger Inn for some refreshments. Dating back to the 1850s, this is a charming
and traditional building. Full of golfing memorabilia and with a great atmosphere, it is popular with
tourists and locals alike.
Ahead of playing the famed fairways, this afternoon enjoy a private golf clinic entitled “Prepare to
Play the Links” - hugely popular with players who are about to go out and play on the Links courses.
This session covers all the unique skills that are needed to hopefully perfect the putt, drive, or chip.
Check into the world-renowned Old Course Hotel for five nights. Recognised as one of Europe’s
leading resorts, this prestigious property borders the 17th hole of the Old Course, and features a
combination of classically elegant and contemporary interiors. Your spacious accommodation boasts
direct views of the famed links. Guests who do manage to draw themselves away from this bird’s-
eye view of the world’s most famous golf will appreciate the interesting use of tactile textures – a

Days Five & Six: Thursday 19th & Friday 20th July – The 2nd & 3rd tees
Let the golf get underway on two Championship courses…
The New Course - often regarded as the oldest “new” course in the world. It was built in 1895 by
the legendary Old Tom Morris. It is said to be St Andrew’s best kept secret, the course is a classic
links with undulating fairways and delightfully challenging greens. No Handicap required.
The Dukes Course. This championship course designed by five-time Open Champion Peter
Thomson is situated just two miles inland from St Andrews. It was opened by HRH Prince
Andrew in 1995 and was designed to complement St Andrews’ famous links with its natural
heathland setting. With five sets of tees at each hole, the course has the flexibility and challenge to
appeal to golfers at every level. No handicap required.
One evening, you may wish to dine in the Road Hole Restaurant at the Old Course Hotel. Savour
exceptional 3AA Rosette cuisine created using the finest ingredients from Scotland’s natural larder;
stunning views of the Old Course and the West Sands complete the experience.

Day Seven: Saturday 21st July – The 4th tee - The Old Course - St Andrews.
Follow in the path of golfing greats to play the renowned Old Course. Commonly known as The Old
Lady, it is one of the world’s greatest and most iconic courses, and is often lauded as the spiritual
home of golf.
Distinctive features such as the Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognised amongst amateurs
and professionals alike, while the 17th – the Road hole – is a strong contender for the most famous
hole in the world.
The Old Course has a rich history. From the Archbishop Hamilton recognising the people’s right to
play on the links in 1552, to legendary golf pioneer Old Tom Morris acting as custodian of the links
from 1865 to 1903. More recently Tiger Woods, called the course “the ultimate” after becoming the
youngest grand slam winner in 2000.
As one of the oldest in the world, it continues to challenge and delight even the very best golfers of

Day Eight: Sunday 22nd July – The Open Final
Following a tremendous tournament at Royal Birkdale in 2017, 2018 will see The Open return to
Carnoustie for what will be the 147th Championship. It has played host to seven Open Championships
since 1931, the last in 2007 when Pádraig Harrington lifted the Claret Jug.
Since 1860, The Open has been played over some of the world’s most cherished links courses and has
produced a remarkable legacy of great champions. It is the oldest and most international
championship in professional golf and the Claret Jug, first presented in 1873, is one of the most iconic
trophies in all of sport.
Travel to Carnoustie for the final day’s action and to see who will be crowned Champion of the 147th
Open Championship.
Alongside other golf enthusiasts in a likely capacity audience, the chance to watch golfing greats
battle to win the title is a thrilling and unforgettable experience.
Day Nine: Monday 23rd July - Onward Travel
