THE MORROW HOME MESSENGER COMPLIMENTARY Morrow Home Community Fall/Winter NEWSLETTER 331 S. Water St. • Sparta, WI 54656 2020-2021 608-269-3168 www.morrowhome.org “A Christian Tradition of Caring” As 2020 is winding down, our history books will have several chapters reserved for our battle with COVID 19. One thing for sure in my history book of memories is all of our hard working staff here on our campus of Morrow Home Community. First hand I witnessed many individuals encounter endless hours of work while working several days in a row to care for all of our residents. They are the true heroes of 2020. The vaccine for this horrific virus cannot come soon enough. We here at Morrow Home want the best for all those we care for on our campus and all of our future individuals in our community who may need our care. For the past 80 years, our Homestead building has stood tall, been a landmark of our community and has served us well. As all buildings age in time, it reaches a point where repairs outweigh a new and modern building to care for the next generation. As you drive by our campus from Water Street, you can see the structure of our new assisted living consisting of 36 apartments of which 7 are two bedrooms and the remaining apartments being spacious one bedroom apartments. Alongside of our new assisted living building will be our new chapel and 15 bed rehab unit for our nursing home with private dining and many more modern features to care for our short term stay rehab residents. Completion of our project is planned for late summer of 2021 with demolition of Homestead building to follow along with the west wing first and second floor of our nursing home. The history of Mary Morrow will live on in our new modern building that will better serve our community for years to come. I am pleased to say we have completed the renovation of our second floor nurses station, living room and dayroom. Currently we are in the process of renovating our first floor nurses station and therapy kitchenette. All of this is made possible with the generosity of many individuals contributing to our previous annual Christmas Appeal. Thank you for all your giving generosity. As Christmas brings this year to a close and a new year begins please take the time to give thanks for all the great things we have been blessed with in our lives. Even through all the challenges we endured in 2020, it is important to keep in mind the gifts that surround us every day. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Morrow Home Family, Dan Meyer CEO

1938: A new building was constructed; a 3-story brick facility where the residents lived and were cared for at Morrow Home. 1957-1993: Morrow Home grew substantially through various additions to the 1938 building, providing modern rooms that serve as “home” to our residents. 1963: Chapel added to enhance the spiritual lives of our residents. 1988: New Nursing Home Dining Room, full basement, laundry, new kitchen, and enclosed courtyard constructed. 1994: Homestead, 24 Independent Living Apartments, with services began from the remodeled nursing home area, later approved for Assisted Living. A CHRISTIAN TRADITION OF CARING Having previously worked in ministry, the phrase “A Christian Tradition of Caring” on the street sign is literally what drew me to apply at Morrow Home in 2006, although there wasn’t a position open at the time. I looked for work at a number of places in Sparta over that summer as I followed the Help Wanted ads. Then an opening did appear at Morrow Home for a part-time receptionist. I needed full time work so I could be eligible for benefits and this position was very part time. But I asked to be considered as this could at least get my foot in the door. By what I truly believe was Divine Intervention, the day I interviewed at Morrow Home, a culinary employee had just put in a 2 weeks’ notice that morning. My Morrow Home journey began washing coffee pots, peeling 100 lb. bags of potatoes and serving the evening meals to the dear Homestead residents. Soon after, opportunities arose to fill in at the nursing home reception desk, assist in Adult Living Services with housing and lend a hand in marketing for the campus where my administrational experience was put to good use once again. I have been blessed to reconnect with families from the Angelo area where I grew up. My heart’s desire has been to serve and care for our residents and their families, along with supporting our staff in whatever ways I am able. I humbly pray that others see me as an example of being faithful and devoted to portraying Morrow Home’s Christian heritage and hopefully I have inspired others to do the same. “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.” By John Wesley, founder, with his brother Charles, Jenny Koehler of the Methodist movement in the Church of England.
