APPLIANCES TIPS Your Loft Apartment comes fully outfitted with all brand-new appliances. Please read through the following to ensure that proper care and maintenance is exercised while using any of the appliances. Instruction booklets are located inside each appliance. Be sure to remove this booklet prior to use! *NOTE* Certain rooms have switches (similar to a light switch) that turn on power to the appliances (mostly dishwashers and oven fan/light). If your appliance does not turn on, make sure that you have flipped the on/off switch next to the appliance! Dishwasher *USE ONLY SPECIFIC DISHWASHER DETERGENT OR DISHWASHER DETERGENT PODS/TABLETS!* Using regular dish soap or too much detergent will cause flooding in your apartment. Follow these tips and tricks Image used with permission from www.HomeApplianceGeek.com Washer and Dryer Tips (adapted from Caldwell Gregory, UNCSA’s laundry provider) Use only High Efficiency (HE) detergent and make sure you do not use too much soap! Be sure to EMPTY POCKETS of all items. PRETREAT any STAINS! If a stain does not come out in the wash, don't dry it! Drying can set stains so instead try pre-treating and washing again. READ and follow CLOTHING LABELS! Each item of clothing has instructions listed that will tell you how to wash/dry properly. SORT into at least lights and darks unless you want all of your clothes to be the same color! Make sure you clean out the DRYER LINT FILTER every time. 1 wash load = 1 dry load! Do not try and dry more than 1 wash load as it will not dry! Please report any service issues so we can fix them promptly! Microwave Do NOT put any metal objects in a microwave! To clean stubborn stains inside your microwave, microwave a bowl of hot water for 5 minutes. Let the water sit for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove the bowl (careful – it will be hot!) and wipe off any stains with a damp paper towel. Refrigerator Throw out any old food immediately and clean your refrigerator and freezer each semester to keep it fresh and clean!
MAIL There are no changes in how mail is delivered to the UNCSA campus. You may continue to pick up your mail from the Mail Center located on the first floor of the Hanes Student Commons. PRINTING Printers will continue to be available to students at the UNCSA Library. You may e-mail yourself the file to print at one of the library’s computers, or you may download your file onto a USB drive that you may then insert into one of the library’s printers. SUMMER STAY OPTION A summer residency option will be available for UNCSA students who will be residing in The Lofts for the 2020-2021 academic school year. This plan will eliminate the inconvenience of moving out in the spring and then moving back in the fall. Considering the time, effort, expense of transportation, and storage of personal belongings, this option may be beneficial to you. This option is available only to UNCSA students who have renewed their 2020-2021 College Housing and Dining Contract to reside at their current Loft Apartment. The Loft Apartment Summer Housing Contract is simply an extension of the existing housing agreement amended to specify the dates and the reduced housing rate. All of the other provisions, as stated in the UNCSA college handbook, will remain the same. The dates for summer residency at The Lofts are from May 9, 2020 through August 20, 2020. The total cost will be announced in March and must be paid by July 1, 2020. The terms of payment may be negotiable. Contract applications will be available via the UNCSA Housing Portal beginning Monday, April 1 and will be due no later than April 17, 2020. Late applications may not be approved. LOCK-OUTS & NOISE COMPLAINTS If you are locked out of your apartment or bedroom, or have a noise complaint to report, please call the RA Rove Phone (available 24/7): (336) 462.7789 Reminder: Students should first bring noise problems to the attention of the offender. DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT (DMCA) POLICY PEER-TO-PEER (P2P) FILE SHARING Currently technology easily allows personal computers to duplicate and distribute copyrighted materials which include video images, audio recordings and other digital materials. Unfortunately, this makes it very easy for students to violate University policy and United States copyright law. For this reason, you should be aware that use of popular and freely distributed file sharing programs found online today, in most cases, places students in violation of UNCSA policy and U.S. law. File sharing programs should be deleted from your computer before arriving to UNCSA. Please read and familiarized yourself with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and UNCSA policy #507 (http://policy.uncsa.edu/2011/06/08/takedown-notice-policy-507). For questions concerning file sharing, students may contact the UNCSA Information Technology Department at (336) 770-3300. IF A STUDENT IS FOUND IN VIOLATION… 1st Violation: If a student is found in violation of the DMCA Policy a Residence Life Programs Assignments staff member will e-mail and send the student a notice of violation. The student will then have ten (10) days to respond and schedule a meeting. During the meeting the student must sign a “statement of understanding” and agree to delete all copyrighted information from their computer. If a student does not respond within ten (10) days, the student’s internet port will be disabled until they meet with the Residence Life Programs & Housing staff member. 2nd Violation: If a student is found in violation for a second time a letter will be sent to the Associate Director of Judicial Affairs, and the student’s internet port will be then disabled pending the outcome of a judicial citation.
