Seeing It OJ C SIs Believing It— Hard Work Pays Off E very year for this issue we ask you—the readers, manufacturers, suppliers, metal roofers and associations—to submit your projects, which you are most proud of. We ask you what the challenges were and what you think worked best to make these projects a success. We receive many different and unique projects ranging from equine facilities to courthouses, other government buildings, firehouses, residential homes, marinas—to name just several of them. But, the main material that stands out with all of these projects is metal. What a beautiful thing. This unique issue—the idea book—examines signature metal roofing projects from an architectural viewpoint, highlighting the colors, curves, angles, materials and other design possibilities of metal roofing and wall panels. They all have unique aesthetics that are special to each of them. Many of them posed challenges, book but with all of your hard work and dedication, they all came out a huge success and you should be extremely proud of all of your hard work. It is always difficult to pick which projects make it into this issue. Please, keep sending us your projects and we will do our best to highlight them in upcoming issues. We also have our Project of the Month features in our regular issues. If you don’t find your project in here, you may see it being highlighted in that section in a future issue. We hope you enjoy the issue as much as we do. -The Staff of Metal Roofing Magazine w w w.construc tionmagnet.com 5
PETERSEN ALUMINUM PROJECT: Marina Ridley TWP Marina, Ridley Township, PA Product: 10,500 square feet of Petersen’s Snap-Clad roof panels, complemented by a matching 1,500 square feet of vented PAC-750 Soffit Panels, both in Petersen’s Copper Penny Metallic. Architect: Catania Engineering Associates, Milmont Park, PA Installer: E.P. Donnelly Inc., Warrington, PA Contractor: J.S. McManus Inc., Chester Heights, PA Over the years, the town has made improvements to the marina, boosting its popularity with boaters. And, with the recent opening of a new $6 million restaurant, along with marina offices, right on the waterfront, that income potential is becoming a reality. Owned by the township and leased to a local restaurateur, the new Stinger’s Waterfront has quickly become a popular destination. It’s also easy to find, even without a GPS, thanks to a standout metal roof finished in Petersen’s impossible-to-miss Copper Penny Metallic. While the color is certainly eye-catching, it was the classic Snap-Clad PAC-CLAD profile that first caught the attention of Clarice Jones, project architect with Catania Engineering Associates, the restaurant’s Milmont Park, Pennsylvania-based design firm. She knew the standing seams on the 10,500 square feet of Snap-Clad roof panels—complemented by a matching 1,500 square feet of vented PAC-750 Soffit Panels—would emphasize the crisp lines of the building’s contemporary façade. www.pac-clad.com 6 the idea book 2019 – from Metal Roofing Magazine

MARTIN ROOFING SUPPLY PROJECT: Bank Barn Maryland Bank Barn, Galena, MD Roof Panel: ABSeam Panel and ABM Panel Roof Color: Medium Bronze and Bronze Side Panel: ABM Panel Side Color: Ash Gray Builder: Byler Builders, LLC 8 feet square by 13 feet high—that ís the size of the cupola on this Maryland bank barn. A.B. Martin’s standard cupola sizes are 16, 24, 36, and 48 (the two cupolas on either side are 48). For this jumbo cupola, A. B. Martin partnered with friends at Frysville Metalcraft. The funny thing is, the jumbo cupola doesn’t look that big on top of the barn. But that just shows how big the barn is. The roof panel is the ABSeam Panel in Medium Bronze with ABM Panel Ash Gray as the siding. The materials for the other buildings also came from A.B. Martin such as the ABM Panel Bronze and Ash Gray roofing, siding and wainscoting, with Snow Defender 4500 snow guards, and smaller ABM Cupolas. www.abmartin.net 8 the idea book 2019 – from Metal Roofing Magazine
NEW TECH MACHINERY PROJECT: High School Roma High School, Roma, TX Products: McElroy Metal’s 138T Symmetrical Standing Seam Metal Roofing and McElroy Metal’s 238T Symmetrical Standing Seam Metal Roofing Panel Manufacturer & Installer: Rio Roofing, Inc., Harlingen, TX Roof Panel Roll Former Manufacturer: New Tech Machinery, Denver, CO Design/Restoration Consultant: Amtech Solutions, Pharr, TX For 25 years, Roma High School in Roma, Texas, experienced leaks at various points throughout the building that led to external and internal damage to the property. On top of the tendency to leak, the school is located in a windstorm prone area, which is why the school board and community decided on a replacement of the original tile roof with 233,335 square feet of McElroy Metal’s 138T symmetrical standing seam metal roofing. The panels are factory-finished in Brite Red long-lasting PVDF paint. Additionally, McElroy’s 238T symmetrical standing seam metal roofing was used to cover an existing metal R-panel section. Amtech Solutions specifies McElroy 138T and 238T panels for many large-scale roof recovers, as they believe it’s the easiest panel to design and install complex or simple flashing details, and because the panels are symmetrical, contractors can start installing panels anywhere on the roof. Furthermore, seaming goes faster because it’s possible to seam the cap going in either direction, and damaged panels can be replaced without removing any undamaged panels. New Tech Machinery provides customized SSQ Roof Panel Machines to McElroy Metal to allow for field fabrication of these special panel profiles, which is exactly what Rio Roofing did during the installation. www.newtechmachinery.com 10 the idea book 2019 – from Metal Roofing Magazine

EDCO PRODUCTS PROJECT: Home Residential Home, Lake Minnetonka, MN Product: EDCO Products’ Infiniti Shake Steel Roofing in Roadhouse Installer: New Century Exteriors After large hail and damaging winds brought significant damage to the exterior of a Minnesota lake home, the homeowner started researching several roofing products to determine the best option to replace their cedar shake roof. An internet search led them to EDCO’s steel roofing. “I was familiar with corrugate and standing seam steel roofs, but we did not find either of those styles very appealing,” said the homeowner. “We really had no idea how beautiful steel could be until we saw the many styles of homes with steel roofing installed.” In addition, the homeowners were impressed with how affordable steel was over time. The lifetime warranty, which includes non-prorated parts and labor, sealed the deal. Rick Case, owner of New Century Exteriors, assisted the homeowners during their research phase. “For 35 years, I have been installing different types of roofing products with the last 15 years focused specifically on metal,” said Case. “When I sat down with the homeowner and laid out the longevity, warranty and appearance of the EDCO product, it became a no-brainer to this couple that EDCO steel roofing was the choice for their home.” One of the reasons New Century Exteriors only installs metal roofing today is because of the consistent performance of the products. www.edcoproducts.com 18 the idea book 2019 – from Metal Roofing Magazine
