Welcome
The Opening Sentence
Officiant We give you thanks, O God, we give you thanks, calling upon your Name and declaring
all your wonderful deeds. Psalm 75:1
The Confession of Sin
Officiant Let us confess our sins to God.
Silence may be kept.
Minister and People
God of all mercy,
we confess that we have sinned against you,
opposing your will in our lives.
We have denied your goodness in each other,
in ourselves, and in the world you have created.
We repent of the evil that enslaves us,
the evil we have done,
and the evil done on our behalf.
Forgive, restore, and strengthen us
through our Savior Jesus Christ,
that we may abide in your love
and serve only your will. Amen.
The Absolution
Officiant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus
Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.
Amen .
Opening Hymn
Alleluia! sing to Jesus!
his the scepter, his the throne;
Alleluia! his the triumph,
his the victory alone;

Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion
thunder like a mighty flood;
Jesus out of every nation
hath redeemed us by his blood.
                                                      1
Alleluia! bread of Heaven,
Thou on earth our food, our stay!
Alleluia! here the sinful
flee to thee from day to day:

Intercessor, friend of sinners,
earth’s Redeemer, plead for me,
where the songs of all the sinless
sweep across the crystal sea.
The Opening Versicle
Officiant O God, let our mouth proclaim your praise. Alleluia.
People And your glory all the day long. Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one
God: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia.

The Jubilate
Antiphon: The Lord has shown forth his glory; come let us adore him.
Let all things now living
a song of thanksgiving
to God the creator
triumphantly raise,

who fashioned and made us,
protected and stayed us,
who still guides us on to
the end of our days.

God’s banners are o’er us,
his light goes before us,
a pillar of fire
shining forth in the night,

till shadows have vanished
and darkness is banished,
as forward we travel
from light into light.

His law he enforces,
the stars in their courses
and sun in its orbit
obediently shine;

                                              2
the hills and the mountains,
the rivers and fountains,
the deeps of the ocean
proclaim him divine.

We too should be voicing
our love and rejoicing;
with glad adoration
a song let us raise

till all things now living
unite in thanksgiving:
“to God in the highest,
hosanna and praise!”
Antiphon: The Holy One is in our midst: O come let us worship.

The Psalm 50:1-6
 1 The LORD, the God of gods, has spoken; *
     he has called the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
 2 Out of Zion, perfect in its beauty, *
     God reveals himself in glory.
 3 Our God will come and will not keep silence; *
     before him there is a consuming flame,
     and round about him a raging storm.
 4 He calls the heavens and the earth from above *
     to witness the judgment of his people.
 5 "Gather before me my loyal followers, *
     those who have made a covenant with me
     and sealed it with sacrifice."
 6 Let the heavens declare the rightness of his cause; *
     for God himself is judge.

At the end of the Psalms is said
Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God:*
   as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
The Lessons
The Old Testament
Reader A Reading from the Second Book of Kings.

                                                        3
2 Kings 2:1-12
When the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their
way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha
said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
The company of prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that
today the LORD will take your master away from you?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent.” Elijah
said to him, “Elisha, stay here; for the LORD has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the LORD lives,
and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. The company of prophets who
were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the LORD will take your
master away from you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know; be silent.” Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here;
for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will
not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood
at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle and
rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of
them crossed on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I may do for
you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” He
responded, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be
granted you; if not, it will not.” As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire
separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and
crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see
him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.

The New Testament
Reader A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians.
2 Corinthians 4:3-6
Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world
has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the
glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ
as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out
of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in
the face of Jesus Christ.

Reader A reading from the Gospel of Mark.
Mark 9:2-9
Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on
earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for
you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then
a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved;
listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only
Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had
seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

The Apostles’ Creed (All Say)
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
  creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
  who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
  born of the Virgin Mary,
  suffered under Pontius Pilate,
  was crucified, died, and was buried;
  he descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again;
  he ascended into heaven,
  he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
  and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
  the holy catholic Church,
  the communion of saints,
  the forgiveness of sins,
  the resurrection of the body,
  and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Officiant The Lord be with you.
People     And also with you.
Officiant    Let us pray.
(All Say) Our Father, who art in heaven,
   hallowed be thy Name,
   thy kingdom come,
   thy will be done,
      on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
   as we forgive those
      who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
   but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
   and the power, and the glory,
   for ever and ever. Amen.
The Collect of the Day
Officiant O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon
the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may
be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen .
A Prayer for the Power of the Spirit Among the People of God
Officiant God of all power and love, we give thanks for your unfailing presence and the hope you
provide in times of uncertainty and loss. Send your Holy Spirit to enkindle in us your holy fire.
Revive us to live as Christ’s body in the world: a people who pray, worship, learn, break bread,
share life, heal neighbors, bear good news, seek justice, rest and grow in the Spirit. Wherever and
however we gather, unite us in common prayer and send us in common mission, that we and the
whole creation might be restored and renewed, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymn
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
                                                  6
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

The Officiant adds a concluding Collect.

prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen .

The General Thanksgiving (All Say)
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
Closing Hymn
The Church’s one foundation
is Jesus Christ her Lord;
she is his new creation
by water and the word:

from heaven he came and sought her
to be his holy bride;
with his own blood he bought her,
and for her life he died.

Elect from every nation,
yet one o’er all the earth,
her charter of salvation,
one Lord, one faith, one birth;

one holy Name she blesses,
partakes one holy food,
and to one hope she presses,
with every grace endued.
