September, 2020 We can’t change their past, But we can rewrite their future. The Hallie Hill Howler November, 2020 Meet our Board of Directors: Natalie Bluestein My husband Scott and I both grew up in Charleston and knew each other as chil- dren, but didn’t re-connect until we lived in the same building in law school. We are both attorneys with busy practices, no children, and lots of pets! Currently, we have two English Springer Spaniels, Pippa and Paddington, and four cats, Edgar Allan Paw, Annabel Lee, Dear Prudence, and Vivi (for Vivien Leigh). Three of our four cats are adopted, Edgar from a kill shelter, Dear Prudence from the Charleston Ani- mal Society, and Vivi from our vet’s office, where her previous owner had abandoned her. Scott grew up with female springer spaniels, all of them named Farrah Fawcett! Farrah III was my wedding gift to him, and Pippa is technically Farrah IV (but only on her paperwork). I grew up with Siamese cats, and we had three when we got married almost 23 years ago. Siamese have a way of running the house, and we have never had an issue with the dogs listening to them and doing whatever the cats tell them. Everyone gets along very well, except the dogs, who are siblings and sometimes really act like it! Pippa and Paddington go with us to work every day, and they are excellent sources of therapeutic relief for our clients. They love being working dogs, and we have both had overwhelmingly positive response from clients about having dogs in the office. Hallie Hill is such a special place, for animals and for the people who love them. I’m honored to be working with such a caring, committed Board, a passionate Director, and dedicated group of staff and volunteers. 1
Mary Ellen Kyle Mary Ellen Kyle has been a regular Monday volunteer for close to four years! She retired from MUSC as a physician, and has devoted her free time to volunteer- ing not only at HHAS, but with Reading Partners. She enjoys playing bridge, gar- dening and racquet sports. Mary Ellen's love of ani- mals has been lifelong. She was known as "Dr. Doolit- tle" among her neighbor- hood friends when she lived in Philadelphia. Mary Ellen enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her three daughters and their families. We are so fortunate to have her at Hallie Hill. Thank you Mary Ellen for your November, dedication 2020 2

TICKETS HERE: $5 EACH, OR 5 FOR $20 About the Artist: DONNA GAMBLE “Like many people from the Northeast, it only tool one trip here to the Lowcountry of South Carolina to become hooked! Our family consists of three rescues, a bloodhound mix, a blue tick coonhound and our newest member from Hallie Hill, a Staffordshire Terrier named Chico! All three have unique personalities and are a tight pack that keep track of each other. We are strong advocates of dog safety and wellness and letting them shine in their own light! Our Bloodhound does search and rescue work, our blue tick joins in the search and rescue training, as does our Terrier but his passion is swimming in the Atlantic (equipped with his life jacket). I have tremendous admiration for the volunteers’ devotion and good works that make Hallie Hill a success, and wanted to contribute.” Hallie Hill thanks Donna for the beautiful quilt and her devotion to HHAS!
