2022-2023 Student Education and Admission to the Bar Committee Dear Committee Member: We would like to extend a warm welcome to you as a member of The Florida Bar’s Student Education and Admission to the Bar Committee (SEABC). We believe that your tenure as a member of the Committee will prove to be both interesting and rewarding. You have been assigned a working group as detailed in the attached e-booklet. You will have the opportunity to join with other attorneys and members from around the state to accomplish the designated charges contained herein. You will be requested to (1) participate in meetings, (2) participate on conference calls, and (3) fulfill assignments presented to your working group. We prepared this packet of information to familiarize you with the roles of SEABC. We are looking forward to a busy year and we appreciate your commitment and service. ry Latim en e H r sm Ce te li a n r n fo io r Prof ess Mission Statement for the Student Education and Admissions to the Bar Committee (SEABC): Work with Florida law schools to ensure the highest caliber of legal education and preparedness for bar admission and work with Florida law schools to cultivate the highest caliber of Florida legal practitioners. More specifically, the SEABC will: • Monitor current issues in legal education and work with the Florida law schools in better preparing law students for the legal Profession. • Work with law schools in their development of student curriculum. • Work with The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division to encourage and facilitate communication between Florida law schools, The Florida Bar and the Florida Board of Bar Examiners (while understanding that the annual Florida Law School Dean’s Summit is within the purview and control of The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division). 3

Law School Professionalism Panels Working Group Working Group Charges 1. Develop, promote, staff, and coordinate at least two (2) professionalism CLE panels for law students and new lawyers. The two (2) panel events may be held remotely but must be held prior to the Florida Bar’s 2023 Annual Convention. a. This Working Group should develop two (2) distinct agendas for the two (2) professionalism panels (i.e., one agenda for each panel). The agenda should focus on topics relating to profes- sionalism, which may include, issues observed in the legal profession and ways to handle unpro- fessional conduct, the importance of the attorney-client relationship, the rules of professional conduct, best practices for virtual court, professionalism in electronic communications, and navi- gating the practice after law school. b. This Working Group should use members of the Committee and the judiciary, focusing on including a diverse group of panel members, and should promote the events on social media, email, and the Center’s webpage. LAW STUDENT AND NEW LAWYER EDUCATION AND RESOURCES WORKING GROUP Working Group Charges: 1. Create a series of 2–5-minute videos to provide tips and advice to law students and new lawyers. The intent is to develop a Law Students tab on the Center’s webpage housing these videos along with other helpful resources for law students. The videos should be completed no later than one month prior to the Florida Bar’s 2023 Annual Convention. The videos should give details on best practices and tips one needs to know during law school and for those new lawyers who are just entering the practice of law including, but not limited to, Bar Exam prep, organizational skills, student loan advice, stress management, work-life balance, legal career paths, and mentoring and networking, etc. 2. Follow and update as to any changes resulting from the FBBE Practice Analysis Study Report. 3. Look for ways that SEABC and the Center can join with law schools to create programming and promote professionalism. 4. Mentoring Initiatives Working Group Working Group Charges 1. Using available data regarding mentoring initiatives from Florida law schools and other state bars, create a mentoring toolbox designed for law students that can be published on the Center’s webpage. 2. Produce a CLE that focuses on types of mentoring, gives examples of successful mentoring programs, discusses the benefits of reverse mentoring, attorney-client assistance mentoring, and client-centered counseling, and explores ways in which mentoring can be used to promote diversity. 3. Each member will provide a blog post for The Professional highlighting their own personal stories involving mentoring, including photos, for a social media series. 4.
