Community Spirit In October the Foothills Gleaners Society began collecting food donations at their Thrift Store located at 301 Government Road S. The goal was to build a mountain of food and with various posts on social media and requests from folks in town and the surrounding area the mountain began. Mark from AG Foods generously donated a 10% discount to any customers purchasing food for this initiative. In total, 1407 lbs of food filled two cube vans to the roof and were distributed to the struggling families and the less fortunate. The Foothills Gleaners Society's mandate is to continue to receive donations, not just for Christmas, but now aiming for Easter. Things needed most are basic necessities such as; peanut butter, pasta & pasta sauces, cereal, canned tuna & salmon, canned beans, vegetables and fruits. If anyone wishes to donate to the next food drive non-perishables are gladly accepted at the store. The Foothills Gleaners Society would like to thank everyone who has donated food and time to help better serve and feed those struggling within the community. Thank you Foothills Lions Club! Two months after competing in the Shellshock powerlifting event in Edmonton and setting a World Raw Powerlifting national record in the deadlift, 13- year-old Hayden Hampton found out his pull of 225 pounds was, in fact, a world record in the Men Junior 13-15 age category. "When I found out I was really happy because they were going to take all those records away from me," he said. "But then when I came home from working with my dad, my mom handed me my three certificates from the WPF, (Canadian) and my world record one. "It was kind of a shock for me. " Hayden does all of his training at his parent's local gym Focus Fitness.
