SERVICE & LEADERSHIP AT NEXUS LL We encourage and support our learners in their service and leadership initiatives. Nexus has CCAs that are led by our Secondary students. These CCAs have an LL symbol next to them which indicates they are Learner Led. These acts of service will contribute to: • Creativity, Action & Service (CAS) - this is a requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) • National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) - All Year 12 learners will be doing this award along with any Year 10 & 11 learners who wish to sign up. For more information please contact nyaa@nexus.edu.sg SCHOOL COUNCIL Primary We consider each child at Nexus capable of taking a leadership role. Stephanie Thompson will provide dedicated support sessions on Thursday lunchtime to nurture student leadership initiatives Last season: • Year 3 organised a ‘Rubbish Ranger’ group • Year 4 organised a Book Swap • Year 5 celebrated a Human Rights Festival and ran a charity shoe box appeal If you have an idea to make the world (or Nexus) a better place, we would love to get learner-initiated lunchtime activities started. Children are more than welcome to come along and get involved. Secondary The focus for the Nexus Secondary Council this year is supporting our Nexus community by: • Planning and organising ‘Diversity Week’ • Coordinating the Nexus Nations Parade • Continuing to take action around the school, for example last year the Secondary School Council led an initiative to create a learner friendly outdoor space for use at lunchtime. The group continues to share and discuss whole school issues and ideas, and work towards a positive outcome for all. The Nexus Secondary School Council meet once a week on a Friday lunchtime. 6 NEXUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (SINGAPORE)
