Craft Pick up | San Marcos Community Center Wednesdays | 3:30-4:30 p.m. | $5 per activity Family Night activities bring families together while participating in arts & crafts and assorted projects. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each $5 kit contains one craft or activity. If multiple children would like to participate, parents must pre-register each child individually. Jan. 19 | Paper Airplane Contest @ San Elijo Park Gazebo | 3 p.m. Join us for an afternoon of paper airplane fun! Supplies and techniques for making a paper airplane ready for flight will be provided. Feb 16 | Kite Day @ Walnut Grove Park | 3 p.m. Let’s go fly a kite! We will provide you with all the supplies and knowledge to make and decorate your own kite. Walnut Grove Park is the perfect place to test fly your kite once it’s done. March 16 | Crafternoon – Leprechaun Traps @ Richmar Park | 3 p.m. Let’s do some crafts in the park! Just in time for St. Patty’s Day, make a leprechaun trap to make sure you capture some of the luck of the Irish. April 17 | Bike Rodeo @ Hollandia Park | 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Bring your bike for a morning of fun! In coordination with the San Diego Mountain Bike Association, a mobile pump track and other obstacle courses will be set up for kids to learn and perfect their bike riding skills. May 22 | Disc Golf Clinic @ Sunset Park | 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Have you tried your hand at disc golf? Come see what the fun is all about! San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club will be onsite to give tips and tricks for beginners to advanced players to see that everyone makes it in the basket. SAN MARCOS HIKES Saturdays | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (Sign-in at 8:30am) Landmarks Hike Series | San Marcos is rich with local historical sites, outdoor opportunities and innovative new community developments. You will see examples of these and more on hikes exploring such landmarks that continue to make this City a recreational North County leader. March 6 | Rose Ranch & Richland Area Easy to Moderate A blend of wide sidewalks, maintained trails and signature parks await you on this 5.3-mile hike through some of the oldest neighborhoods in San Marcos. There is minimal elevation gain. Meeting location: Hollandia Park, 12 Mission Hills Court, San Marcos 92069 (park near the dog park). Peaks Hike Series | Spectacular 360-degree vistas await hikers who successfully summit these highest peaks in the San Marcos area. The rewards that await you are worth the effort you will put in. Make it a personal challenge or one between friends. UPDATED INFORMATION BELOW May 1 | Las Posas Park to “P” Mountain Moderate to Strenuous With 840’ of elevation gain, this challenging hike will depart from Las Posas Park to the top of “P” Mountain. We will return along the Santa Fe Hills Trail, to the Las Posas Trail and back to Las Posas Park for a total of 5.1 miles. Although this hike is only slightly over 5 miles long, it is rated strenuous and not recommended for amateur hikers. We strongly recommend trekking poles and shoes or boots with proper traction and support. Meeting Location: Cerro de Las Posas Park, 1387 W. FACILITY RESERVATIONS Park Shelters The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come, first served basis. Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date.
