The Breakwater Buzz April 2021 Issue 4 “Life Life begins again - in April! Begins How this dead earth comes to flower! How the dry boughs wake and quicken Again In this blooming, springtime hour! In April” Life begins again - in April! And the bird is on the wing. Yesterday may lie in ruins, Brooks are flowing, breezes tender All the past be dead and drear. In a rhapsody of spring. Just forget that! Skies are bright blue! It is the springtime of the year. Where is the heart that can be downcast? It is April! Nature’s own month! Where is the eye that does not brighten? It is April! Heaven’s own season! Behold the world so fresh and new April - flowering - stirring - blooming! As the dark skies part and lighten! Quite beyond man’s meager reason. Those who sorrow shall take comfort, Life begins again - in April! Those who droop shall smile again, Hill and valley reel with living. April brings a message clearly To the weariest of men. To all things new life she brings With joyous fervor in her giving. A Poem By… Lenore Hetrick

Kenny’s corner Scary Scams Targeting Seniors! Medicare & Health Insurance Fraud Since every U.S. citizen over the age of 65 qualifies for Medicare benefits, seniors are an easy target for medical scams, because criminals do not have to do any research around their insurance provider. Some ways to spot a medical or insurance scam: Being told you need a new Medicare card and have to divulge your Social Security number. Being told you need supplemental policies. Being asked to pay a $100 fee for help navigating the new Obamacare landscape. Phone Scams Scammers use several types of phone scams to prey on seniors. Here are a few to watch out for: IRS phone scam - the IRS will never call you over the phone to contact you. Caller ID Spoofing - Criminals make the name of your bank pop up on your caller ID. A call from an unknown number - never call back an unknown number! Investment & Timeshare Schemes Timeshare scams have been gaining popularity among the scammers. Crooks will typically ask for money upfront for advertising, title searches, and other administrative fees. You may even be told that you will be refunded if your timeshare isn’t sold in 90 days. That is a lie! You will not receive a “refund”. Lottery Scams Seniors get a call saying they have won the lottery of some kind, but they are asked to either pay money or give some kind of sensitive account information to claim the winnings. Be warned, you should NEVER hand over money for a “prize” or to anyone that you do not know. If you have any questions regarding scams or think you have fallen victim of a scam please contact Ken Penny.

Library News April 2021 Spring is officially here and, hopefully, April will offer us some warm sunny afternoons to sit on our balconies or one of our famous Normandy swings to enjoy a few chapters before the lake wind swings by. We continue to add new Current Published donations to our Feature Table. Although few are LARGE PRINT, many have larger print than others. Check them out. We want to thank Eileen Kanda, Bob & Gail Reid’s daughter, and others for their donations of NEWLY PUBLISHED books. We love all the current books that you continue to donate. You also might want to look for the “new to us” paperbacks, which we put right on the shelf. We are still looking for many of the books that started on the Feature Table months ago and have not been returned. PLEASE check your shelves, coffee tables, bedside tables, & personal piles of books for any Normandy Books. They have Normandy stickers on the inside and on the spine of the book that identifies where they go on our shelves. We are also looking for all the Rocky River Library books that you may be holing on to that are from 2020 & 2019. You can identify those by the dates on the spine of the book. We are excited to announce that Carol from the RR Library has started to bring us new books, now that we are open for visitors. She took away 50 books and left us 50 new ones, 30 of which are LARGE PRINT & 20 regular print. She will bring 30 more this month; bring us up to 80 new books, assuming all the books are back!!! Keep checking the RR shelves for new additions. The Rocky River Library books are the only ones that need to be signed out in the “Brown Sign Out Book”. Thank you all so much for your continued support & patience. If you are not able to find any books that interest you in the choices RR has sent us, there is another option the Rocky River Library Outreach Service offers. It provides free delivery and pick up of books to your apartment for residents who are not able to get to the RR Main Library. You can request specific titles and authors or preferences for general categories. Many of our residents use this service. We have information in our library or you can call RR Outreach Service, Carol O’Keefe at 440-895-3755 Happy Spring !! Librarians Barb Palumbo, Laurie Soc & Marvalee Brown

With their unique structure and migration to higher latitudes caused by climate change, mangroves may help coasts keep pace with sea level rise, increase carbon dioxide sequestration from our atmosphere and combat severe weather events like hurricanes. Expansion of these natural barriers along the Atlantic coast may enhance the sustainability of coastal communities as they face impending changes in a warmer future.
