The Bear Facts Busy Bears Quilt Guild October 2019 President’s Message A Quick Note From The President CALENDAR - 2019 October 21 - General Meeting It’s beginning to look a lot like fall. I’m loving the beautiful col- ors in the trees and the fall decorations. October 22 - Workshop - We It’s hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner. Hope will make pillowcases for you are all inspired to start working on and finishing up your children with cancer. Christmas gifts. At October’s meeting we’re going to add a little bit of fun with November 4 - Board Meeting all the business we need to cover. We are encouraging you all to dress up for the Halloween festivals. Busy Bears Quilt Guild General Meeting Minutes September 16, 2019 Call to order President Belinda Evans called to order the regular meeting of the Busy Bears Quilt Guild at 6:02 pm on September 16, 2019 at .Mary Johnson Center of The Community Church, 40946 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake, CA. Approval of minutes from last meeting Motion was made by Mary Baughman and second by Mary Price to approve minutes of August meeting with corrections to date of meeting and winners of Quilt Challenge to 1st Place-Wendy Stevens, 2nd Place-Lys Axelson, 3rd Place-Mary Price. Minutes approved. Open issues Membership – currently stands at 68, three guests attending this meeting. Treasurer’s Report – The August Treasurer’s Report contains an expense duplication. July and August du- plicate entries for table rental for quilt show to be corrected. Motion by Jan Chapman to accept report with corrections was seconded by Janice Stillwell, motion carried. Sunshine and Shadows – Happy Birthday wishes to September quilters. Bonnie Marshall Creel has injured her knee. Heidi Llanes welcomed back after absence. Shirley Hartwick and Lillian Hart will be moving off the mountain. Susan Wade is still in need of our good thoughts. Philanthropy – Sue Hart will become the Philanthropy chairperson. Please check out the available kits and let her know your batting needs. Special Events – Lorraine Taylor has agreed to take over the Christmas Party on December 2. Don’t forget your handmade ornament for the Exchange. Programs – October meeting- Charity organizations speaking regarding our donations; workshop- pillowcas- es for “Ryan’s Case for Smiles” which supplies 11 hospitals in San Bernardino County for kids having to stay overnight. Tomorrow’s workshop will be Hand Dying of Fabric for Quilters (Ice Dying) with Bonnie Marshall Creel. Class charge $20, kits available for $25 must be reserved tonight. 2020 Opportunity Quilt – The Quilt, “Native Dawn” was presented by its creator Lys Axelson, named as a tribute to the native Serrano tribe known for their basketwork and designs who claim the Grizzly Bear as Ancestor. The quilt made $129 in Opportunity donations at The Village Wine Walk in just 2 ½ hours. Open Committee Positions – The 2020 Budget Committee will consist of Belinda Evans, Lorraine Taylor, Jeanne Wallace, Bonnie Snell and Laurie Nahay. The 2020 Nominating Committee will be Mary Price, Belinda Evans, Lorraine Taylor and Jeanne Wallace. There are open positions for Committee chairs. See Belinda if you are interested to see the list. 2020 Quilt Show – Jeannie Mazzacane and Belinda Evans will not co-chair the next Quilt Show. Members need to step up or there will not be a quilt show. Adjournment President Belinda Evans adjourned the meeting at 8:10 pm. PROGRAMS Our meeting this month will be Dawn Hall from Doves and Nichole McGivney from the Mom and Dad Project. They will be sharing their programs with us and how our quilts assist them. They will also answer any questions you may have. We had a very fun time at the dyeing workshop last month. Lots of fun information. Thanks Bon- nie for all the tips on how to come up with what we want. The workshop: We will be making pillow cases for children with cancer. Sue has 100 cut out so it will be quick and easy to sew them together. It’s an easy project and our “Challenge” will be to complete all 100-what do you say? Will we see you there? Just bring your sewing machine, a neutral colored thread and scissors, etc. It will be fun and just think of the smiles they will cre- ate! Workshop will be at 9:30, Tuesday October 22 at the community center. Bring your own lunch. “Show and Tell” We thought it would be fun for everyone that wants to bring a favorite or fun Halloween or fall wall hanging, quilt or decoration to share. Can you believe it’s time to start thinking about the Christmas Party? Join us at the Lodge in the Stillwell’s Restaurant - 40650 Village Dr. at 5pm on December 2. The sign- up sheets will be at the next meeting. The cost is $20 for members with the guild paying the balance. You will have a choice of Beef, Chicken, Salmon or Pasta. When you sign up, pick what you would like for dinner and pay with check or cash.
