“LIGHTING THE WAY TO BETTER COMMUNICATION” March 2011 Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities The Beacon “Dancing with the Stars” Extravaganza! On March 11, ten couples will take the dance floor at the Holiday Inn Eastgate in the second annual Clermont County “Dancing with the Stars” Extravaganza! All proceeds from this event will benefit Clermont DD’s Gift of Time Respite Cooperative Program which helps families of children and adults with developmental disabilities enjoy respite opportunities each month. Just who are this year’s couples? In no particular order, they are… State Representative Joe Uecker and Meredith Delaney, Development Director, UC Clermont College Commissioner Bob Proud and Karen Scherra, Executive Director of Clermont County Mental Health & Recovery Board Ken Tracy, Miami Township Trustee and Jayne Mummert of the Clermont County Family & Children First Ralph Vilardo, Milford Mayor and Susan Vilardo, Executive Director of The Literacy Council of Clermont/Brown Counties Julie Graybill, Director of Communications & Development, Clermont Chamber of Commerce & Dan Ottke, Clermont DD Adult Services Director Stefanie Warren Marketing Manager, Park National Bank & husband Aaron Warren Neil Leist, CNE Schools Superintendent & wife Candace Leist Jeff Weir, Williamsburg Schools Superintendent & wife Kelly Weir Carl Woodrow, Clermont DD Retiree and Volunteer & granddaughter Kathryn Lachat Don White, Clermont County Prosecutor & wife Bonnie White, a former employee at Clermont DD Tickets are $50 and include an hors d’oeuvre bar, one drink ticket, and a show that will knock your socks off! 3 We are pleased to announce that Angie Stanton is the new Activity Aide for the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities! She replaces Joan Arthur who retired on February 28. Be sure to watch the April Beacon for an article about Joanie. Angie has been employed at Clermont DD for several years in the Adult Services Department, and brings experience and enthusiasm to the Community Relations Department. To give her time to train for her new position, we only have two activities planned this month; keep in mind, Angie will have a full schedule of events planned for April. 6 March is DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH! Each year, the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities celebrates the accomplishments of individuals in our community by recognizing March as DD Awareness Month. Several exciting events are planned this year to raise awareness about programs and services that are offered to children and adults with developmental disabilities in Clermont County. In addition, we have the opportunity to participate in community events that help spread the word about our agency’s programs.
