Welcome competitors! Thanks for joining The Battle 2018 –whether it’s your first time or you’re an experienced Battle-goer, you’re in for a wonderful evening full of fun and team spirit. 1 in 22 Australian women will be diagnosed with gynaecological cancer. Just under half will die. Those that don’t, face treatments that often leave lasting effects. We don’t just want these women to survive their cancer, we want them to survive well. The aim of this event is not only to raise funds for research into gynaecological cancer but also to raise community awareness about this deadly disease. Please use this information pack as a reference point for any questions you have. Battle Information 2018 Thank you for your registration to participate in The Battle 2018. In this document, you will find all the information you need to participate. Please take the time to read and understand this information before The Battle begins. Whether you’ve played before or not, make sure you check out the rules below. And remember – the games are all about having fun! When: Friday 16 March 2018 from 5pm Where: Sandstorm Beach Club @ Queensland Sport & Athletics Centre (QSAC), 590 Mains Rd Nathan How: Venue parking is via Carpark A which is Mains Rd entry only. Parking is on both the left and right on entry from Mains Road lights. Public transport is also available to the stop “Mains Road Park & Ride,” on Mains Rd approaching Omeo St which is a short walk from Sandstorm. Please see www.translink.com.au for more details. Registration Registration will take place inside the front gate on Friday 16 March from 5:00pm. Only your team leader or nominated person needs to register just to let us know you are here. Individual registrations will not be required. Head over to the desk and collect your venue map & draw. Approximate schedule for the evening Time Activity 5pm Registration commences 5:35pm Battle Opening & warm up 6pm Games commence 8:30pm Semi-finals and finals commence 9pm Presentations and awards Safety Please remember to dress appropriately and drink plenty of water. Sports injuries First aid will be on site to attend to any injuries to competitors or attendees. Food & drink All your food and drink needs will be available for purchase on the evening. We have vans from Eat Street Markets there on the night. The draw Unfortunately we will not have the draw available until registration, due to last-minute team entries. Copies will be available at the registration desk and also at the kiosk at Sandstorm. Winning the game The winner of each game is the team that has scored the most points. Competition points Allocation of competition points will consist of three points for a win, two for a draw and one point for a loss. Rain In the event of rain the games will still go ahead. Sandstorm has advised us that the event will only be postponed if there is a storm or hail. Power play tokens To give your team the winning edge, power play tokens can be purchased at the Cherish merchandise table for $50. Please read the rules before purchasing. Rules: Each token can only be used once (tokens must be relinquished to referees when redeeming). However, teams can purchase three tokens per game. Teams must disclose their tokens prior to commencement of each game to the referee and their opposition (tokens do not have to be used during the game but opposing team must be given notice that a token may be used). When a team elects to use a token, the opposing team must play one point on their knees or one point with their oppositions hand behind their backs (one hand only per player) PPT must be redeemed before each point is played (i.e. prior to serve) – PPTs cannot be redeemed once playing of a point commences. PPT can be used at any time during a match (including the point that may win a game). PPTs can be used in semi-finals and finals matches No time-out will be allowed during the course of a game to enable purchasing of PPTs. Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation Ph 0488 333 723
Beach Volleyball Rules – provided by Sandstorm Starting Play: Captains will be called by the referee before the start of the match to rock off (scissors/paper/rock) The winning captain will have the opportunity to choose either: o Service or receive o Choose the end to play from (considering the elements sun/wind) Court Dimension: Court size: 8x16m Net Height: mixed 2.35m Team Compositions: Teams are made up of at least 5 players, 5 to play and you can have at least 1 reserve/substitute Teams however can chose to play with only 4 players. Substitutions: Are permitted to make unlimited entries into the court but may only replace a player at the completion of the rally. If you have a spare player on the side line, we would suggest you rotate this player onto serve. Service Order: Service order must be maintained through the set. Playing the Ball: Each team is entitled to a maximum of three hits for returning the ball over A block counts as a hit/contact, so if your teams block touches the ball you only have two (2) more contacts. You can only contact the ball once (i.e. not consecutively), except if your block touches the ball you can in this instance touch the ball again. You cannot attack the ball above the height of the net from a serve (i.e. you cannot block or spike a serve that comes to you on the first contact) You cannot touch the net whilst playing the ball. Setting: double contacts and touches will be relaxed during the play. Scoring: Rally point scoring system will be used; each rally is worth one (1) point. To win a point Whenever a team fails in its service or fails to return the ball, or commits any other fault, the opposing team wins the rally and one (1) point. To win a set A set is won by the team that has scored the most points in the permitted time period. If the scores are even (15:15), one more rally will be played (golden point). To win a match The team winning the most points at the end of the allotted time will win the match. If the scores are even (15:15) at the end of the allotted time, one more rally will be played (golden point). Time outs: Due to restricted time limits, no time-outs are permitted.
