Term 4, Week 9 – Wednesday 11 December 2019 Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Bula vinaka, Fakatalofa, Fakaalofa atu, Kia orana! It is the time of year for us to farewell our year six students. I must say that they have been an awesome group of learning HEROES. They have overachieved in a whole host of areas; sporting, digital, musical, cultural and academic. They have led the school with pride and their interactions with and care of the junior students has been fantastic. Congratulations and best wishes to them. Staff Farewell We are really fortunate that we have a very stable staff for 2020. Teaching teams will be very similar to what they are this year. Please see details in the body of this newsletter. I would like to thank and farewell the following staff for their massive contribution to Waitākiri and Burwood Schools. There will be appropriate farewells for these staff in the coming week. Tanya Keeling - at the end of 2018 Tanya won a position with the RTLB (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour). This was a one-year contract, but they were so impressed with her that they have employed her full time. Tanya had been with Burwood and Waitākiri for 19 years. Congratulations Tanya! Sonya Faisst - Spent 5 years at Waitākiri in the capacity of a Te Reo teacher. We thank her for her significant input in all things Māori in our kura. Staff on Leave Kim Hillson, my Principal’s Assistant and one of the main contacts for the school has been granted one years leave for 2020. I personally would like to thank her for the significant support that she has been to me, the school and the wider community. You will be really missed, enjoy the well- deserved break. 2019 Staff that have been with us in fixed term positions The following teachers have been in fixed-term positions in 2019. We really appreciate what you have added to Waitākiri. Stephanie Henning, Hannah Vaughan and Lee Gane. End of year report To access your child’s report and class you will need to log onto LINC-ED as you did for the mid- year report. The staff and students have been posting rich content to our LINC-ED site and we are excited to share this with you and involve you in your child’s learning journey. Our aim has been to implement a robust system that allows teachers, parents, and students to access learning in an online environment that is secure, easy, and effective. Also you will now be able to view your statement of accounts online. More details on how to logon are included later in this newsletter. Thank you so much to all the people who help to make Waitākiri such a special place. A special thanks to the Board of Trustees and the PTA. We really appreciate all the support! It was a pleasure to host the Parent Helper morning tea today as a small thanks from the staff.

I will let you know the total amount raised this year after our first meeting next year. We have closed off the calendars now and we raised $869.00. Thank you to everyone who supported this. The children should be very proud of themselves. They created some amazing art work! Our final sausage sizzle for the year raised $615.00. The children love these and we love doing them as well :) Our first PTA meeting next year will be Monday 17th February at 7 pm in the staff room. This will also be our AGM so will be a bit longer than usual (but there will be drinks and nibbles) so please come along and see what we are all about. We would love to see some new faces and get new ideas for next year.
