Frequently asked questions How do I pay for my child’s lunch or any food at break time? We use a cashless system in the canteen at both break and lunch time. Your child can bring cash into school and add it to their account at the main office. On your child’s first day in September they will be given a 4-digit pin which they will use when they are paying for any food in the canteen. If your child has free school meals, they will be credited with £3 a day to pay for their lunch. This can buy a meal and a drink in the canteen. If your child forgets their 4-digit pin they can go to the main office to be provided with it again. Will there be an opportunity for parents to meet with teachers? We will be holding a parents evening as an induction to Fleetwood High School for you. This usually happens in July however this evening may be delayed due to the current social distancing regulations. We hold a morning in October for parents to come in and speak to their child’s form tutor to discuss how their child is settling into life at Fleetwood High School. What do I do if I think my child is being bullied? As part of the Fleetwood Way we believe all children have the right; to feel safe and secure, to learn and be treated with respect. We have a zero-tolerance policy on bullying. If you have concerns, you should contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance. When concerns have been raised by students, parents or staff we address the situation by following our anti-bullying policy. 11
Welcome pack Year 7 2020-2021 What time should my child arrive at school? The school day starts at 8.35am. Students arrive to school through the canteen. We encourage students to arrive at school at around 8.30am so they have enough time to make their way to their form room for the 8.35am start. What do I do if my child is absent from school? We expect all our pupils to aim for 100% attendance. Any attendance level below 95% will trigger intervention in school to improve attendance. This may include mentoring, parental meetings or student contracts. Firstly, decide if your child is too ill to attend school. Each day school is attended by a number of pupils who may feel under the weather. The majority of these pupils improve during the day and have no problems as a result of attending school. If your child is not attending school, please contact us before 8.30 am on 01253 876757 on each day of absence with reason for absence. On return to school, please provide a letter explaining the illness. In some circumstances the school may request evidence of the illness. The decision regarding the authorisation of absence is one that rests with the school rather than the parent. Can a pupil take a holiday during term time? There is NO entitlement to a holiday in term time. All requests for a holiday absence will therefore be declined. Any holidays that are taken will be recorded as an unauthorised absence What shall I do if my child has appointment during school time? All appointments should be arranged outside school time. If this is not possible for medical appointments, we require you to hand in evidence of the date and time of the medical appointment before the date of the appointment. 12
