WE ARE PART OF THE NATIONAL INTERSCHOLASTIC CYCLING ASSOCIATION NICA is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization founded in 2009 NICA facilitates the development of youth cycling for grades 6th- 12th nationwide by providing the licensing, training, and insurance to our coaches, teams, and volunteers.

WE ARE In 2013, we started as the WIN Project League. State Championships that year saw 4 different categories, 6 teams and 60 participants. In 2014 WI was then affiliated with NICA. In 2019 we are seeing the following of incredible growth and success! 2019 Statistics: 58 TEAMS 585 COACHES 623 RACING STUDENTS 951 REGISTERED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

WE DO MORE THAN JUST RIDE BIKES We fill a niche for students whose interest might not be traditional school sports and get kids outside. We welcome and support diversity in disability, ethnicity, gender, orientations, and skill levels. We promote health & fitness in teens & their families, and improve focus and academics in our riders. We create economic benefit to communities hosting races and promote trail-building efforts and environmental awareness in students. .

WE ARE INSURED THROUGH NICA All registered teams, coaches, volunteers, and student athletes are covered. OUR IMPACT

Season Fees and Costs Student Fees & Registration Equipment & Travel • $25 NICA National League Registration Fee • Cross-country mountain bike* • $40 Wisconsin League Registration Fee • Safety equipment (helmet, gloves, glasses) • $50 Sun Prairie Team League Fee • Travel to races (many families camp at race • $40 per race or $180 by 8/1 for discount all 5 sites) Some rough camping free or minimal fee • $125 Cycling Kit (jersey or shorts) optional • You can race all or none of the races Registered Students & Coaches get access to League Sponsor Benefits and Discounts. The League offers scholarships and “loaner” bikes to students in need.
WILL THE KIDS BE SAFE? Cross-country mountain biking is not the extreme biking you may have seen on TV. NICA promotes a systematic approach to proactively manage the risks associated with our sport. Injuries do happen, but our coaches and staff are trained and prepared to handle any situation that may occur and our injury statistics are lower than most traditional school sports. Training and preparation also include correct practice and skills involvement to prevent injuries. All Coaches and Ride Leaders must be licensed and trained by NICA including criminal background checks.

Teams & League Raffle for the 2019 Season! Raffle Fundraiser This raffle is an easy way for athletes to sell tickets to raise money for teams and the league. Ticket proceeds will be split 50/50 between the Wisconsin League and individual teams. The team that sells the most tickets (as a percentage of student-athletes) wins $500 towards an end of season party! Tickets: $10 each or $100 for 12! The drawing will be held at Trek Trails State Championships October 27th 5 Things You Need to Know: Over 20 prizes for 20 1 – Each student-athlete will receive a pack of 12 tickets at the first team meeting with instructions to return 19! More details on stubs and money to the team director before each race. (Expectation that each student-athlete will sell at least 10 ticket) prizes will be coming 2 – Proceeds from ticket sales will be credited back to the teams by November 1st. soon! 3 – BONUS! The team that sells the most tickets (as a percentage of student-athletes) wins $500 for a team party and a private pre-ride with Emily Batty at the final race! 4 – Student-Athletes: Collect the ticket buyer’s information on the ticket stub, along with cash or check; returning both payment and ticket stub to their team director. The ticket buyer keeps the large part of the ticket. (Make checks payable to: Wisconsin High School Cycling League) 5 –Team Directors: Additional tickets can be picked up from Amanda Schulze at races or by email amanda[@]lithiaeffect.com. Deliver ticket stubs and funds to Amanda at races. All stubs, collected funds and unsold tickets must be returned by the final race.
