CONTENTS The Performers / Educational Plays PLOT This is the story of three friends who live in the ocean: Chloe the fish, Sarah the seahorse and Oliver the octopus. Every day they go swimming, watch out for dangerous sharks and clean up the rubbish people dump into the sea. When they meet Sharky the shark everything turns upside down. Give one set of pictures to each pair/group of children. 2. The cards are spread out face down on the desk. 3. One student turns up two cards; if they match, he/she keeps the cards and plays again. All rights reserved. 2 CRAFT: STICK PUPPETS 10 OBJECTIVE 1 To create stick puppets representing Chloe, Sarah, Oliver, Sharky and the diver. OBJECTIVE 2 To use the puppets to role-play short dialogues. PROCEDURE 1. Students get into pairs. 2. Give one or two pictures from the CA 3 to each child. 3. Act out the dialogue: Student 1: Hello, how do you feel today? Student 2 (using card): I feel tired. 4 GAME: SAY IT MIMING 10 OBJECTIVE 1 To mime moods and feelings. OBJECTIVE 2 To practise vocabulary related to the play MATERIAL (see Communicative Activity 3/4): 1 copy of CA 3/ 4 PROCEDURE 1. Students get into 2 groups. 2. Cut out one set of pictures and put them inside a bag. 3. Taking turns, one person from each group picks a mood card from the bag and he/she mimes the word for his/her team. 4. Students must not speak while they are miming. 5. Each team has 1 minute to guess the correct word. 6. If the team cannot guess the word, the second group is given one chance to guess it. 7. The team with the most correct guesses wins the game. All rights reserved. 5 CRAFT: CLEAN-UP POSTER 10 OBJECTIVE 1 To make a poster against dumping rubbish in public places such as the sea, the beach, the street, the parks, the school, the classroom, etc. OBJECTIVE 2 To understand the importance of keeping the Earth and the Ocean clean. MATERIAL (see Communicative Activity 5): _ As many copies of CA 5 as necessary. _ Coloured pencils, scissors, old magazines, water colours, paint brushes or any other material the teacher considers useful for making posters. PROCEDURE 1. Decide which public place you’d like to “protect”. (Students may work in pairs, in groups or individually). 2. Give each child one copy of CA5 and enough material to create the posters. 3. They cut out, paste, draw and/or colour their “Clean-up posters”. 4. They could hang the posters in the place they want to clean, on the classroom walls, or in the school halls. 5. It would be great to accompany this project work with the children’s own explanation of the clean-up process, and a real clean-up event at school or wherever considered appropriate. 09 -

All rights reserved. 7 CELEBRATION: JUNE 8TH IS WORLD OCEANS DAY 10 OBJECTIVE 1 To celebrate World Oceans Day to promote a feeling of belonging to the World amongst students, their families and the educational community. OBJECTIVE 2 To understand and promote the importance of keeping our Oceans clean. Suggested activity: • FESTIVAL: You can carry out some of the activities we’ve already proposed in this material (making Clean-Up posters, creating works of art inspired by international artists, filming a commercial against plastic pollution or using the “I keep the Earth and the Oceans clean” badge) and exhibit everything at a World Oceans Day Festival. • FAMILIES: You can invite families and the educational community to participate in this event in order to raise awareness about the importance of keeping our world clean. • STORY-TELLING: You can invite your students’ relatives to read an ocean-themed story book to inspire children to care for and protect the ocean. • ART CONTEST: You can organise an “Oceans Awareness Art contest” among your students. • Visit http://www.worldoceansday.org/.
