Have you had a hard time finding a new CONTENTS bike, kayak, or pair of running shoes? It’s not your imagination. It’s no surprise that the biggest gainers were running, cycling and hiking. Athletics. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8 Americans have flocked to outdoor recreation largely because of the pandemic. Reports show that this is in part because alternate types of recreation like movie theaters, SML Community Park Beach. . . 11 bowling alleys, and gyms were shut down because of COVID restrictions. But, this is not the only reason. People report that the pandemic’s impact inspired them to Drive In Bingo.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12 re-evaluate priorities, seek positive life changes, and reduce screen time. Either way I love to see people discovering outdoor recreation and getting active. Classes/Camps.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 13 As we turn the corner on this pandemic and traditional forms of recreational reopen, I hope that you take full advantage. Renew your gym membership, sign up your Racquet Sports. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14 child again for a team sport, go play pickleball or whatever you used to do. About Us Franklin County Office of Aging is a county agency that is funded through federal and state grant monies and local funds. Our services include social and recreational activities held at the Essig Recreation Center, medical transportation, scheduled local shopping trips and recreational day trips. Activities We offer a wide variety of activities including card games, exercise Franklin County Office of Aging works in a classes, art classes, day trips and educational programs. Our facility partnership with Southern Area Agency on Aging includes exercise room, gym and rooms for lots of fun activities.Ages 50 and over may use the facility for free during normal operating hours. We are located at: Essig Recreation Center, Medical Transportation 295 Technology Drive Rocky Mount, VA 24151 We provide medical and dental transportation to those over 60 years Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm of age. Local Shopping Seniors in Rocky Mount town limit have access to sign up for our twice monthly shopping trips; if you don’t have any other means of transportation. This FREE event will follow all COVID-19 state guidelines to ensure the safety of all in attendance. We will have hand sanitizing stations; as well as, ample area to physically distance. Buddy’s BBQ will be providing the "fixins". Bring your canoe, kayak, SUP, tube or float and paddle your way to a front row seat for this one of a kind event. Music begins at 6:30pm. Arrive early to unload your paddlecraft at the venue’s dual launch ramp. Motorboats please utilize the Salthouse Branch Recreation Area for lake access.
