2021 TAE4-HYPD Conference Objectives Provide a variety of professional and personal training opportunities to increase agent’s knowledge, skill sets, and confidence to promote and provide a variety of education. Create a positive learning environment and provide opportunities for agents to network with other agents. Pre-Conference Sessions Locations to be Determined. 4-H Leatherworking Project (Fee - $20.00) The 4-H Leathercraft project is designed to involve youth and adults in an expressive art experience. It is not designed to make expert leathercraft workers of young people. Instead, the primary purposes are to help young people develop life skills, to enrich their lives through knowledge and activity, and to foster creative use of leisure time. In addition to the general 4-H objectives, the Leathercraft project objectives are: • Goal setting—Each 4-H’er will have the opportunity to set individual goals and strive toward achievement. • Pride in workmanship—The 4-H’er will have the opportunity to set individual goals and strive toward achievement. • Skills—The 4-H’er will learn specific skills of leathercraft. • Knowledge— The 4-H’er will learn the history of leather and how to select and care for leather and leather articles. *Resource: Oregon 4-H Leatherworking Instructor: Kayla Neill, Parker County 4-H Agent Grant Writing Join in as we learn the dos and don’ts of grant writing, how to develop your goals, objectives and how to measure the impact. These are key factors in successfully being awarded grants. The last part of our time will be spent on reviewing tools available in researching grants and what to look for before choosing to apply. You will see some sample grant proposals to use as guides for your future grant applications. Participants will earn Heartsaver/First Aid and Stop the Bleed Certifications. Topics include: CPR - Adult/Child/Infant CPR and Adult/Child/Infant Choking First Aid - Burn care, Cuts- including Stop the Bleed demonstration, Allergic Reactions and Seizure Care. Speaker: Wise Health System Cookie Science (Fee - $50.00) Have you ever wanted to learn how to decorate cookies? Here’s your chance! Come join cookier, Kim Weeks in learning the art of the perfect cookie, creatively using cookie cutters, making your frosting, and choosing the correct decorating tip for the job. Learn detailed techniques in this class for beginners. Class is limited to 15 people. All supplies are provided (cookies and icing will be provided) and participants will decorate and carry 6 cookies. Speaker: Kim Weeks
Conference Sessions Video Editing Virtual was the buzzword of 2020 but utilizing technology to educate or tell a story is an idea that will undoubtedly be sticking around. Shooting and editing videos can seem daunting for someone who has a million other things on their to-do list, but it actually can be simple with a little practice. Callie Cline, the Texas 4-H Marketing & Communications Specialist, will discuss some tips to remember when shooting your video, video editing platforms, tools, and tricks, and how to upload to YouTube to share your masterpiece. Speaker: Callie Cline Taking Fashion Storyboard Digital From a Thought to a Creation: Learn how to take the Fashion Storyboard Digital! Storyboards can now be created using a digital platform including but not limited to Canva, Picmonkey, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and PowerPoint. The 4-H Storyboard is an industry-inspired method of displaying original designs. The best storyboards create vivid visual images that are interesting and appealing to viewers. The storyboard “tells the story” of the designer’s idea. The storyboard includes original illustrations and flats, as well as additional materials (such as photos from the Internet or magazines, paper, fabric swatches, patterns, etc.) that have influenced the unique design. Speaker: Jocelin Villarreal 4-H Sportsfishing Exploration Explore the world of fishing at the water’s edge! Kick back in the shade and enjoy the company of friends while you fish. Fishing is an easy and relaxing outdoor activity and is fun for the whole family. Fishing can be inexpensive and available with present city, county, and state public waterways. You will also learn resource management and leadership skills. Here are just a few things you will learn in this project: • Basic fishing skills • Fish and aquatic life identification • Aquatic Ecology • Fishing laws, ethics and stewardship • Tackle crafting – lures, rods, and other fishing equipment • Boating skills • Outdoor safety and first aid • Fish habitat management Speaker: Larry Hysmith 4-H Vet Science Project Exploration This nationally recognized veterinary science program provides an industry recognized curriculum and certification for youth and adults with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a veterinary assistant. The VSCP provides a sound platform for students who wish to pursue an associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree in the veterinary science field. Graduates of the VSCP clinical track are eligible for apply for certification through the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. There are over 4,000 licensed veterinarians in Texas and through this educational program our hope is to increase the numbers of students pursuing a career in the veterinary profession. Conference Sessions Food Challenge – Training teams destined for State Roundup Tips for Success in the Kitchen - Want to see quick and easy ways to prepare recipes? Join us as we prepare fun recipes that you can implement in your kitchen. Speaker: Thomas Boyle, Erath County STEM – Gross Me Out This session will cover a variety of "gross", gluey, grimy STEM activities which kids will love to try! Participants will leave with a complete set of lesson for a project series or day camp. Are you up for the challenge? Speaker: Dr. Tamra McGaughy, Grayson County Curriculum Enrichment – Water Education Join David Smith, 4H2O Program Coordinator, as he shares water conservation curriculums that are exciting and fit into the classroom or into a Water Camp. He will also share updates on the Water Ambassador program. Join us as he shares resources for you to use to improve your program. Speaker: David Smith Curriculum Enrichment – Safety Day & Wildlife Resources Progressive Agriculture Safety Day continues to be recognized as the largest rural safety and health education program for children in North America, more than 1.8 million children and adults have been reached through a one-day safety and health program designed to be age-appropriate, hands-on, fun and, above all, safe Training remains an integral part of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program. Through annual training, both new and experienced Safety Day coordinators identify the key components to conduct a high-quality, community-supported, one-day educational program designed to be hands-on and fun for children ages 4 to 13. Through an annual application process, approved applicants will attend an annual training providing them with the support, guidance, and resources needed to make their event is safe and successful while leaving a lasting impact on the participants they reach. Target Audience: 3-4 Grade -Outdoor Adventure Field Day is a one-day program designed to be age-appropriate, hands-on, fun for both students and teachers. Program highlights the Texas 4-H Outdoor Education project and provides youth the opportunity to learn skills such as camping, wildlife watching, hunter’s safety, outdoor survival, canoe/kayaking, outdoor safety and first aid, outdoor navigation, and other outdoor fun. Off-Site Workshops & Tours Texas Motor Speedway “Cruising Down the Front Stretch” In the middle of farmland in North Texas, you will find Texas Motor Speedway which is home to two NASCAR races each year. Racing promotes agriculture by more than painting DeKalb or Farm Bureau on a car that will shine in the lights, in 2011 NASCAR switched it to a corn based bio-fuel. Ethanol is a clean-burning, earth-friendly alternative that partners farmers with the race car industry. During this tour, guests will get to visit Pit Road and Victory Lane, check out the Luxury Suite and Gift Shop, and finally, experience laps around the track! Outlaw Equine “Exceptional Equine Care” Decatur is home to several elite cowboys and a whole community of horse enthusiasts. When a cowboy’s most important tool, his horse, needs veterinary care they head to Outlaw Equine. Under one roof, there is a veterinary clinic, hospital and rehabilitation center to treat and train equine across North Texas. The state-of-the-art rehab clinic features a water walker, swimming pool, cold salt chambers, theraplate/solarium, cold laser therapy, equine chiropractic and more. DIY Studio “Interior Design on a Budget” Discovering that pieces from the famous Magnolia in Waco are designed and created in the heart of Decatur is any interior designer’s dream. Within their production facility, they also feature a shop full of items from local craftsmen and a DIY studio that will encourage the imagination of all creative thinkers. During this tour you are sure to find ideas to help build summer workshops, enhance your home interior project and have project sharing time with other agents. The Vintage “Discover Chocolate” Off the square you will find one of the newest locations, The Vintage which is home to Harper & Riley’s Chocolate Factory. Learn about the different types of chocolate and how to incorporate this ingredient into your Food & Nutrition/Entrepreneur project. Hands on chocolate making during this tour is sure to be a delight! Marker Cellars Winery “Taste the Heritage” Surrounded by the LBJ Grasslands, the family farm is an eco-friendly environment, supporting the re- introduction of quail and dove into the sensitive national forest system. The Winery placement and build out have been influenced by the natural beauty of its surroundings. Join us for a tour with the wine maker as they share the history of Texas Wine and more about turning Texas grapes into Texas wines.
General Session Speakers Keynote Speaker: Aaron Alejandro Aaron Alejandro is Executive Director of the Texas FFA Foundation located in Austin, Texas. In his nonprofessional hours, Aaron consults with businesses, organizations, education and youth clubs about ways to improve organizational and individual performance. He has more than 30 years of experience in management, personal and professional training. As an inspirational speaker, his unique style of delivery transcends all age groups and corporate cultures offering a clear message of personal dynamics for success. Aaron resides in Wichita Falls. Capnote Speaker: Janice Ralston Sons Laughter: The Best Medicine Justice of the Peace Janice Ralston Sons, former Wichita Falls TBW president (1985- 86) and former Woman of the Year (1990-91) is well-known around Wichita Falls, and the great State of Texas Judge Sons has been in office in Wichita County since 1988 and is extremely active in the community, serving on the boards of The Arc of Wichita County, YMCA, Susan G. Komen Wichita Falls Race for the Cure and Justice of the Peace and Constable Association of Texas. She currently serves as president for Arc and YMCA. Other awards received include Hirschi High School Alumni of the Year, induction into the North Texas Women Hall of Fame, and two-time recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award by Leadership Wichita Falls. She has one son, Rusty, daughter-in- law Richelle, and three “awesome” grandchildren, Taylor, Maddie and Jackson.
