MAY 2021 Summer - it’s back on! Our Summer Fair is back, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever! We were really sad that we had to cancel last year’s event, and we’re looking forward to its return. This year, the Summer Fair is as much for families as it is couples and groups of friends. We really do have something for everyone! To name a few highlights, there will be; a brass band, lots of different stalls, a licensed bar, yummy barbecue food, a fire engine, dancers, a school choir, a play area, The Bear Factory, make your own super hero cape...and more! We can’t wait to see you there!
MAY 2021 It’s good to be back! After months of our Hospice shops being closed, it was an amazing feeling to ‘open up shop’ again on April 12th when restrictions lifted. We caught up with Natasha in our Retail Team who said; ‘The teams were eager to return and their hard work and dedication really paid off with a bumper first couple of weeks trade. The first week we were 39% up on budget and 21% up on budget for the second week. It’s a great sign that our charity shops were Fancy a chat? Head over to our missed by our customers. It’s a great see them continue. Thank you to all shop staff way to keep in touch with colleagues and volunteers for your continuous hard work.’ you don’t get to see that often. We’ve moved! On Monday 19th April we opened our newly relocated clothing shop in Castleford. It’s much bigger and brighter than our old shop and even has the addition of our first Little Kingdom concession. If you happen to be in Castleford, be sure to check it out. We are located opposite Wilkos, which is a great location with loads of footfall. We hope you love it as much as we do. A big thank you goes to Dawn, Steph and their team of volunteers, who did a fantastic job of setting up the shop. Natasha Morosini, Deputy Retail Operations Manager 2
Yogurt Terrine Our new Head Chef, Greg, has kindly sent in this recipe. We love that it looks fancy, but is oh so simple to make! Recipe of Ingredients: 500g plain yoghurt the month 500g double cream 150g sugar 30g gelatine Method Soak the gelatine in water. Whip to soft peak cream and add yoghurt. Add gelatine and mix well. Pour into portion size moulds and keep refrigerated until set. Serve with any berry sauce. Meet Greg! So, we’ve featured Greg’s very first ‘recipe of the month’ in PoW WoW, now it’s time to get to know the man behind the pud! We caught up with Greg to find out a little more about him, and what his plans are for the kitchen. Here’s what he told us; ‘Let me first introduce myself. My name is Gregor Staric (Greg) and I am your new Head Chef at the Hospice. Born in Slovenia (not Slovakia) many moons ago. Slovenia is one of the smallest countries in Europe (not in Russia) with beautiful Alps at the North West and Adriatic Sea on the South West. In April or May you can ski in the Alps in the morning and swim in the sea in the afternoon. In 2006 I came to England, just for three months to help my friend set up a new restaurant, but as you can see, I’m still here. I used to work for big nation-wide chains like Wagamama, Loch Fyne, Cote restaurants as well as small independent pubs and restaurants. For the last nine years I had my own business running cafes and pubs. You’ll soon notice changes on the menu and changes to the system your catering team will operate. I can promise you, we’ll bring you meals that are cooked with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and lots of love. Daily specials will really be specials, cooked fresh and not something we need to get rid out of our freezer. Any feedback from all of you would be much appreciated as well as any suggestions for new improved menus in the future. Every Friday we’ll be sending you an email with the following weeks daily specials, so you can plan your lunch. Bon appetit!’ We have included a sample menu that will run from 3-7 May. I’m sure you will all agree, it looks amazing! 3
