By 2016, the community was significantly underfunded for retirement, with savings forecast to be depleted by 2027. To address this deficit, the sisters participated in the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO) Planning and Implementation Assistance program. The process helped the community to recognize the need for change and to adopt ways of operating and thinking that promote ongoing viability. Since entering Planning and Implementation Assistance, the community has reduced its unfunded liability by 50 percent. Congregational leader Sister Teresa Maya talks about the process, the community’s progress, and the unexpected blessings along the way.
