Burlington County Board of County Commissioners Burlington County Parks System Summer 2022 www.co.burlington.nj.us/parks
Message from Commissioner Allison Eckel Hello friends! Summer is an exciting season in our County parks! We invite you to come out and enjoy the exquisite scenery and the wide variety of outdoor recreation County parks have to offer. The Burlington County Parks System already has more than 1,000 acres of developed parkland and 50-plus miles of interconnecting hiking, biking and running trails for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy, and we continue to look for ways to expand and enhance our county’s beautiful outdoor spaces. This spring we completed construction on two new trails. The first loops around Arney’s Mount in Springfield – Burlington County’s highest elevation. The second travels along the Rancocas Creek and links two of our most popular County parks, Amico Island Park in Delran and Pennington Park in Delanco. Within these pages, you will also find listings for hundreds of Parks programs and events, ranging from outdoor movie screenings, lunchtime nature walks, cooking classes and line dancing. We also have an outstanding lineup of concerts, performances and family-friendly events planned throughout the season. No matter your age or interests, there’s sure to be an activity, program or Parks event that you and your family will enjoy, so plan to visit a Burlington County park, museum, or gallery today! I look forward to seeing you at one of our events. Summer Programs Improv continues to be one of the fastest growing performing arts in the US. It’s in movies, TV shows, Broadway, and now right here in Burlington! ComedySportz, the longest-running show in Philadelphia history, is bringing its Intro to Improv Workshop this summer to Burlington County Parks. This workshop is a great way for individuals to find their creative side, regardless of their performing experience. We'll teach you the basics: agreement (“yes, and-ing”), active listening, commitment, working as a team, taking risks, and being present in the moment, and then apply those skills to some of our favorite games like Try That On For Size, Dr. Know It All, and Advice Panel. You'll learn how to improvise in an inclusive and welcoming environment and have lots of fun doing it. No two classes will ever be the same! Imagine a world where your career and housing are assigned, your electricity and nourishment are controlled, where your every move is tracked and monitored by hidden surveillance devices, a world where you are denied the most fundamental human right: choice. This may sound like a world of fiction, but it is not. This was the dynasty of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, a regime that Romanians were forced to endure while fenced off from the rest of the world. This is the story of a brave young man who risks everything to search for the truth, change, and freedom. Although I Must Betray You is historical fiction, the Ceausescu dictatorship and the suffering of countless Romanians were real, yet their story is unfamiliar to many. We hope you will join us because, in the words of the author, “When history lies hidden in the shadows, those connected to that history often feel misunderstood.
