ADULT | VISUAL ARTS Spring 2018 CLAY ADULT VISUAL ARTS | SPRING ADULT VISUAL ARTS | SPRING Bits and Pieces AC1S18 From Ancient Greece and Rome to the splendors of Turkish mosques, mosaic art ADULT has had a prominent role in exquisite decoration throughout history. This art form is experiencing a renaissance fueled by the craze for pattern as well as reuse of materials! Come explore the ancient yet modern art of mosaics in this unique class! Each student VISUAL ARTS creates a variety of mosaics out of vibrantly colored bits and pieces of ceramic and glass. Participants learn techniques in design, cutting, gluing and grouting. This art form is one in which even a beginner will be proud to take home and display their creations. Open Studio Add On AC4S18 DRAWING Open Studio time is the newest way for students to spend additional time developing and honing their ceramic skill. PRINTMAKING Totally Twisted - Wire Jewelry Techniques AM3S18 Enjoy creating jewelry in this 4-week intensive course. Begin with easy twisting to make simple wire constructs like pendants, bracelets, and rings. Students learn and explore in the Hatch Makerspace in Watertown Square and apply their new skills Mon April 2 – June 4 (no class April 16, May 28) to projects at the MCA. Explore the basics of 3-D printing, laser cutting, and more. 6:30 - 9:00 pm Make t-shirts, stickers, jewelry, cards and come up with original ideas or incorporate Ruth Henry new ideas into artwork! Mixed Media - Personal Explorations AM2S18 Classes will meet at the Mosesian and the Hatch. The Art of the Book AM7S18 Students engage in traditional and non-traditional bookmaking and artist book techniques including alternative book structures. Artists talk about ways to expand the concept and materialization of books as art objects throughout the course. Participants also explore applications of page design and printmaking to book design. M/$180 NM/$195 Demystifying the Sewing Machine AF2S18 Fri April 6 - June 1 (no class April 20) Have a sewing machine at home that never gets used because no one knows how 9:00 - 11:30 am to use it? Think making fabric items from scratch sounds fun but intimidating? This Dani Schechner class covers the basics of machine sewing through a combination of scrap fabric and purchased fabric projects. Felt Fabulous M/$180 NM/$195 Start with a mound of colored wool strands and finish with beads, small vessels, and even a completed felt “painting”. ADULT | WORKSHOPS All-Day Collograph Workshop AW3S18 Winter 2018 Collographs can be an exciting combination of relief printing, adding and subtracting layers of material and monotype printmaking. Create printing plates mostly by re-using common household recyclable materials and printing with non-toxic, water-soluble inks. Bring in recyclables to re-purpose and a selection of items that are texturally interesting ADULT VISUAL ARTS | SPRING ADULT VISUAL ARTS | SPRING (organic, or man-made: plant forms, feathers, fabric, netting, paper, etc.) and dive right in to a day of experimenting with shape formation and color interaction.
