Summer Recreation Newsletter Summer 2022 Summer Recreation Listed below are the programs that Summer Recreation will offer this year. Summer Rec. has always gone well because the Lanesboro Community takes part in these activities. Please note July 4th is on Monday this year . All summer rec. activities will be canceled on July 4th . In the event of rain, all baseball practices will be in the Elementary Gym. *In case of severe weather; cancellation information will be posted on KFIL 103.1 out of Preston. Any questions please contact James Semmen at 467-2229. Beginning Baseball Students entering 2nd-4th are eligible to play Beginning Baseball. Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Beginning Baseball Tournaments are for students entering 2nd through 4th grade and will be on Thursday evenings. A schedule of those tournaments will be given out the first week of practice. Practice starts June 6th. In case of rain, practice will be held in the gym. Pee Wee Baseball Pee Wee baseball will be offered to students entering 4th & 5th grade. Practices will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Tournaments will be on Thursday nights. A schedule of tournaments will be given out the first week of practice. Practice begins June 6th. In case of rain, practice will be held in the gym.
Little League Baseball Little League baseball will be offered for any boys who are entering 6th - 8th grade. Practices will be at 10:00 a.m. and last until 11:15 on non-game days. Games will be scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays and will be played at 10 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Game days and times are subject to change. We will be playing two games per day. Our first practice will be held on June 6th. A game schedule will be given out the first week of practices. No registration is required. In case of rain, we will have practice in the gym. Underhand Fast Pitch Underhand fast pitch practice will be offered for any girls who have completed 5th – 7th grade. We will practice at the softball field on Mondays from 11:15 to 12:00. We may have two games scheduled with Mabel Canton later in the summer. The start date is June 6th and will run until July 18th. T-Ball T-ball will be offered again as an activity for kids ages 5-7. A summer rec. employee will be on hand each T-ball session. We would like to note that T-ball is a co-ed activity. Games will be at the field next to the tennis courts Tuesday mornings from 10:15 – 11:00. Starting date is June 7th. The last date for T-Ball is July 19th. No registration is required. Girls’ Running Club We are offering a Girls’ Running Club on Wednesdays from 11:15 to 12:00 for girls entering 6th - 8th grade. The start date is June 8th and will run until July 20th. We will meet at the football field. Soccer Soccer will be offered as an activity for boys and girls 5 to 12 years of age. Learn about the sport along with getting exercise and having fun. This will be offered on Mondays from 10:15 – 11:00 starting June 6th
and run until Monday, July 18th. We will meet at the football field. No registration required. Golf Every Monday, Starting June 6th and running through June 27th, golf will be offered to students entering 1st - 6th grade. This program is designed for students to grasp the basics of golf. Students should meet at the Lanesboro Golf course and bring clubs and balls. Please sign up for one of the following sessions. There is a maximum of 8 students per session and will be on a first come first served basis. If there is a demand we will add a third session. Session I: 1:00 – 1:45 Session II: 2:00 – 2:45 Kickball Kickball will be offered for boys and girls 5 to 10 years of age. Kids will learn the basics of kickball, get exercise, and have fun. This will be offered on Thursdays @ 10:15 - 11:00 starting June 9th and run through July 21st. We will meet at the field next to the tennis courts. No registration required. Dodgeball Dodgeball will be offered as an activity for boys and girls 5 to 12 years of age. We will split the ages accordingly and have two games. We will meet on the tennis courts. This will be offered Fridays from 10:15 – 11:00. We are starting June 10th and will run until Friday, July 22nd. Weightlifting & Open Gym The weight room will be open and supervised Monday - Friday mornings from 6:30-8:30 a.m. starting June 2nd. It will be open in the evenings on Monday - Thursday from 6:30 -8:30 p.m. There will be qualified personnel to help any individual with a weight program. This is for grades 7 on up and adults. The last date the weight room will be open is August 5th. Last day for open gym is July 28th.
Valleyfair We will be taking a trip to Valleyfair on Wednesday, June 15th. Ticket prices are as follows: above 4 yrs = $35.00. The bus will leave Lanesboro at 8:00 a.m. and return at approximately 9:00 p.m. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Anyone wishing to go must sign up and pay by Friday, June 3rd, in the school office. There is a limit of 52 people who can fit on the bus. YOU MUST RIDE THE BUS TO ATTEND THIS EVENT!! Open Swimming Open swimming will be offered again this summer. It will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, starting Monday, June 6th and ending July 28th. The bus will leave from the school at 12:45 p.m. and return at approximately 4:15 p.m. There needs to be a minimum of 7 people on the bus for the bus to go. $4.00 Daily Admittance Lanesboro Public Library's 2022 Summer Reading Program Read Beyond the Beaten Path! June 3 - July 29 Special program on Thursday, June 2 at 4 pm with Chione a musical story time! July 14 - Magic of Isaiah July 21- Eagle Bluff story July 28 - RAD Zoo Story Time on Fridays at 9:30 am at the Sylvan Park Gazebo (Library if inclement weather) June 3, 17 July 1, 15, 29 Elementary Burro Football Camp Who: Boys & Girls entering grades 2nd – 12th. What: Fundamental Football Camp When: Students entering 2nd–6th grade July 27th –July 29th from 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Students entering 7th – 12th grade July 27th – July 29th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Cost: $20.00 due with registration this includes a football shirt. Where: Lanesboro Football Field Instructors: James Semmen, and varsity football players. Please sign up in the office by July 2nd to get a count for shirts and sizes. Campers will work on basic football fundamentals such as throwing, catching, kicking, blocking, etc. LANESBORO COMMUNITY SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CAMPS 5th and 6th grade girls camp June 27th – 30th from 1:00 – 300pm 7th and 8th grade girls camp July 11th – 14th from 1:00 – 3:00pm
Lanesboro Arts Summer Art Classes: Join Lanesboro Arts for summer arts programming throughout June, July, and August. There are weekly art programs available for all ages. Please check out the website for more information on dates and times: www.lanesboroarts.org/education Surprise Sculpture: Join Lanesboro Arts FREE program to create fun, large-scale sculptures for our community to enjoy! Meet at the St. Mane Theatre’s upstairs classroom. Geared for ages 5-10! Open Studio: Join Lanesboro Arts for FREE art making Open Studio hours in the St. Mane Theatre’s upstairs classroom. You are welcome to use our space and materials (or bring your own). This is an opportunity for artists and their friends to create whatever and however they want! Youth ages 11-18 are invited! Learn to…: Join Lanesboro Arts for “Learn to…” classes this summer. Participants will be learning techniques with oil pastels, water colors, acrylics, felting, and more. These classes are an art experience with the opportunity to explore new mediums with a professional artist as the instructor.
