Being a staffer is an amazing service opportunity that allows them to teach campers more about Jesus Christ and how He wants them to serve. The staffer also has the chance to grow as a leader and see more of the spiritual gifts that they have been blessed with. We cross-train our staff so that they get the opportunity to serve as both Cabin Leaders and Activity/Support Staff in order to get a broad and extensive look at every area and aspect of camp life. Each staff member will be asked to serve as both throughout the summer depending upon the needs of the camp each week. As a Cabin Leader you will oversee a cabin of 12-14 campers with your cabinmate. You will also lead your campers in Bible studies, quiet time, night events, and other activities. The Activity/Support Staff will assist in activities, trading post, camp store, grounds work, and kitchen duty. If you have any further questions, please contact Camp Garaywa by calling 601-924-7034 or send an email to Jordan East at jeast@garaywa.org. Full information about the camp, their brochure, as well as an online application can be found at garaywa.org/camp/cabin-leaders/

Knox County Association of Baptists Knox County, TN Community Engagement Interns The short answer is to live a missional lifestyle of engaging people with the gospel of salvation, hope and grace of Jesus Christ. Knox County, TN has a population of just over 470,000. It is estimated that about 80% of this population would say they are a ‘None’ or ‘Done’ in regards to a connection to Christ’s church. It is estimated that 38,000+ internationals from 100+ countries are living among us as our neighbors. Many of these peoples come from areas of the world unreached with the gospel and where it is difficult to have missionaries. Though we reside in the Bible Belt the mission to reach people with the gospel that leads to an active and positive faith relationship with Christ is great. Recently our associational leadership has identified priority focused targets for engagement in10 Pockets of Lostness and 10 People Groups. As a Community Engagement Intern you will be involved in many different avenues to connect and engage people in conversation and seek opportunities to share the gospel. You will follow-up with persons who seem to have an openness to the gospel. These tasks will require skills in communication, relationship building and being a self-starter. You will be trained in and expected to share the gospel with those you meet in the community. Working hours may include evenings or weekends. We will work whenever is best for us to make connections with people. We will work with the local church to cast vision and bring them along in this task of mapping and engagement. This opportunity will allow the intern the opportunity to engage people with the Gospel of Hope and challenge churches to join them in the task of reaching all peoples of all nations for Christ. The day to day activity of the interns will vary. Some of the activities will involve building relationships thru visiting restaurants, markets, and other businesses, prayer walking (PW) and engaging people in conversations that are out in the area you are PW, helping with a block party in a local community, assisting with special events in parks and other venues to engage others, canvasing neighborhoods, mapping and research. The intern will need to be discipline, motivated and willing to engage others in conversations. We do not work office hours but you will be given time off for relaxation and rest. We do live in a great city with the Smokey Mtns nearby. We will need some fun times in the summer. You are expected to be in Knoxville for the entire time you are assigned here. If you need to be away for an emergency or special reason it must be approved by your supervisor.

Applications and Funding: This year’s promotion is different than that of the typical BSU Summer Missions process. Please see specific positions and project leaders about applications and trip costs. They vary according to the position, but in general, the student is responsible for paying or raising the funds listed. Once you have applied and been accepted/approved for a missions position, you can reach out to bsu@mc.edu about an application for Mission Scholarships. Funds are limited and hard to predict depending on involvement, but we hope to give out several $100-150 scholarships and potentially, a few larger ones depending on the number of interested students. Some projects cost as little as gas money to and from the field and extra spending money for food. Talk with BSU Staff or student leaders if you need to look for a project with the lowest cost possible. We may also be able to help with fundraising ideas and getting you started. Communicate with us and we will help you as we can. A note from the Director: We are praying for you as you consider what God might have in store for your summer. Because of COVID-19, this year looks different for a lot of reasons. Summer Missions is certainly seeing the results of those changes and unknown factors. No matter what happens, God will work in the hearts and lives of people, including us. While we are encouraging you to apply directly through the sending and mission organizations this year, we would love to come alongside you in prayer, preparation, and other forms of support as we can. There are numerous positions in the US that have global impact and we know that you can find many ways to do that on your own. It may encourage you to know that in my almost 21 years of Collegiate Ministry I have never seen someone apply for Summer Missions and go through the process but not be able to serve because of lack of funding. Most students get about 3-4 summers in a lifetime where they can pick up and plant their lives somewhere different for 4-8 weeks, some don’t have the freedom to do it that many summers. We are praying that you will be willing and open to wherever God may lead you this summer. Let us know how we can help. Until all nations hear, Mandy Phillips
