A Message from the Superintendent NEW Little Rock Greetings, Little Rock Community, Welcome back! I am deeply honored to now have School District Board been your superintendent for five years, and what an incredible five years it has been! From the challenges of a global pandemic to the celebration of regaining local control – we have navigated it all together as a community. I believe the momentum for continuing to move our District forward has never been greater, and I am grateful that we have not lost sight of our mission, doing what is best for our students. We know that there is work yet to do as we enter into the 2021-22 school year, but let us not forget some of our many accomplishments, even in the toughest of times: Michael D. Mason Sandrekkia Morning Evelyn Hemphill Calaway • Adopted Schoology platform, allowing ability to pivot to virtual instruction as Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 needed, managing to keep schools running and serving students Disbursing Agent Legislative Liaison • Established Point of Contact (POC) team to ensure adherence to health protocols • Provided meals for students in partnership with multiple agencies • Implemented onsite vaccine clinics for staff, students and community • Continued to grow partnerships with individuals, businesses and faith-based community • Launched successful opening of new Little Rock Southwest High School, JA Fair K-8 Preparatory Academy, and IGNITE Digital Academy • Enhanced literacy efforts • Honored hard work of employees with pandemic pay I am excited about the significant changes that will impact learners this year, including the Community School model, which provides wrap-around services at four of our campuses, and we are exploring the addition of two more school sites; as well as implementation of the Ford NGL model through the Academies of Central Arkansas at our high schools, which will allow our students to align their passions with career and Leigh Ann Wilson Ali Noland Vicki Hatter college pathways. These opportunities are a result of the strong partnership between Zone 4 Zone 5 Zone 6 school, home and community. Please continue to stay involved because your voice matters now more than ever. Vice President Secretary President The academic success of our students is paramount, but we know that health and safety are also priorities for you, and for us as a District. As part of our ongoing commitment, our health team continues to work around the clock, and even on weekends, to help ensure that protocols are followed and information is shared. LRSD’s custodial team goes above- and-beyond the call of duty taking extra steps to clean and sanitize schools and buildings. Our Child Nutrition staff works tirelessly alongside many partners to ensure that our students, virtual or in-person, receive nutritious meals. Other classified team members conduct home visits and assist with technology training for parents and students and work late nights to provide tutoring services. These countless moments often go unseen, yet LRSD’s dedicated educational professionals remain the constant in the lives of the children we serve. My hope is that you will help us share our story this upcoming year. We need your help in pushing out the positive accomplishments of students and staff in conversations or via social media.
