START HERE Step Up for Down Syndrome is DSAGSL’s largest celebration and fundraising event of the year. Donations from this event allow us to provide vital, life-changing programs and services to 1,900 individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Step Up is a time to get creative and have some fun! Name your team after your loved one with Down syndrome! Like “Brandon’s Buddies” or “Drew’s Crew”. Teams can invite one walker for every $25 raised. Each walker receives a com- memorative t-shirt and entrance into the Step Up celebration. Team honorees walk for free. TEAM PAGE Once you start your team, you’ll have a UNIQUE LOG IN AND PASSWORD you’ll use to manage your team through the Participant Center. All the tools you’ll need as a Team Captain are there in the PARTICIPANT CENTER. The first think you’ll want to do is PERSONALIZE YOUR TEAM PAGE. Person- alized fundraising pages raise 30% more than pages that aren’t! Add photos, fun stories and let people know why you STEP UP FOR DOWN SYNDROME! The Participant Center is also where you will see who has donated to your team, aka your TEAM ROSTER. This is a great way to keep track of who wants to come to the Step Up event and who you may want to send a thank you note to. You’ll also find EMAIL TEMPLATES in the Participant Center. These tem- plates make it super easy to send emails to friends and family with your team’s unique link included, asking them for their support. QUESTIONS? We’re happy to help! FUNDRAISING IDEAS SET A GOAL Aim high! At the same time, be realistic. Every dollar counts and stays local to support your family members and friends with Down syndrome. CREATE A FUNDRAISING PLAN There are so many ways to raise money! Think about all the different ideas and then decide which direction you want to go. Having a plan will help you stay on track and organized in your efforts. RAISE MONEY ONLINE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA Social media is a great way to spread the word about why DSAGSL and Step Up mean so much to you. Share your story and create a Facebook fundraiser or include your Team Page link in your posts. CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS AND MATCHING GIFTS Teams that arrange corporate sponsorships receive credit for the sponsorship amount! You can also ask your employer if they have a matching gift program and instantly double your fundraising! PERSONAL ASKS Think about the communities you are a part of and all the people who may want to support you in your fundraising efforts - work, school, church, neighbors, etc. Set up a donation jar, write letters or send emails. The people in your life want to support you! Don’t be afraid to ask! FUNDRAISING EFFORTS There are so many ways to rally everyone together and inspire them to contribute! Many teams host events to raise funds. Be creative and put some FUN into your fundraising. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AS A TEAM CAPTAIN, HOW DO I MANAGE MY TEAM? Use your Team Page to collect and record donations in support of your team. Teams can receive one t-shirt for every $25 raised. T-shirt order forms are available in this packet and online. Be sure to login to your participant center to personalize your page, send emails and see donations raised! HOW DO PEOPLE SIGN UP TO WALK WITH MY TEAM? Walkers can register by joining your team online. Due to COVID, anyone who wants to attend the walk on the 13th will need to PRE-REGISTER. Each Team Captain is responsible for collecting the t-shirt sizes needed for your team. Team Captains must complete the t-shirt order form by the guaranteed deadline of May 14 to collect the t-shirts for the entire team. DOES THE $25 MINIMUM FUNDRAISING COMMITMENT APPLY TO KIDS? Yes. The fundraising commitment helps us cover the cost of the event expenses. WHEN SHOULD WE ARRIVE ON EVENT DAY? We hope you will spend the entire day with us (pending based on COVID restrictions) and enjoy the entertainment, food, games, crafts and fun! Please join us for any portion that you can! The one-mile awareness walk starts at 9:30am. Please note, if we end up having time slots for individuals to attend, you will need to arrive when your designated time slot starts. WHAT SHOULD WE BRING TO THE WALK? Donations you have yet to run in, as well as lawn chairs, tents, coolers...anything to help your team stay comfortable and have fun! Plus, your walk t-shirts and any other signs or banners to show your team pride! HOW WILL DSAGSL USE THE FUNDS FROM THE WALK? All Step Up proceeds go directly toward funding programs and services in support of individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Find out more about our programs at www.dsagsl.org. IS THIS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT? Yes! Just as we celebrate Down syndrome every day of a person’s life, we’ll celebrate Down syndrome at Step Up regardless of the weather! CAN I BRING MY DOG TO THE WALK? We love pets! However, individuals with Down syndrome can sometimes be frightened by dogs. To ensure everyone feels comfort- able and safe, we request that you leave your dogs at home for this event. WILL DSAGSL HELP PROMOTE OUR TEAM’S FUNDRAISING EVENTS? We will do our best to share Step Up Team Events on our social media and our e-newsletter when possible@ Please send your event information to abigail@dsagsl.org with your team information included. WHAT IF I DON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE ATTENDING DUE TO COVID? We understand there’s a possibility COVID will still be a factor when SUDS 2021 happens. We will offer virtual options to celebrate with us and time slots for families to attend and remain social distanced. Stay tuned on what time slots you can sign up for! HOW WILL DSAGSL BE IN LINE WITH CDC GUIDELINES? We are working closely with the Health Department for our event. Each worker/volunteer will wear a mask and gloves. All attend- ees are required to wear a mask. If you don’t have one or forget yours, we will provide you with one. We will have signs to remind individuals to social distance and stay 6 feet apart. We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizers throughout the event, as well as floor markings when standing in lines for booths. All items and surfaces will continuously be disinfected throughout the event.

TEAM INCENTIVES RAISE $1,000 You’ll receive a team support sign with your team name on it that will be placed along the walk route! (one per team*) RAISE $2,500 You’ll receive an upgrade to a team banner (2’x4’) with your custom text on it! (one banner per team*) RAISE $3,000 You’ll receive an upgrade to a deluxe banner that will have your custom text on it as well as a photo! (one banner per team*) RAISE $5,000 Your team honoree will be featured in DSAGSL marketing materials and social media campaigns during Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October! INCENTIVES & DRAWINGS JANUARY - MAY Be sure to read your Team Captain emails as we will announce exciting new incen- tives and opportunities to win fun prizes! *Teams will either earn a sign, a standard banner or a deluxe banner. Teams cannot earn both a sign and banner.
HOW TO EARN TICKETS TO WALK IN THE PARK Walk in the Park is our annual awareness walk held in the fall at Busch Stadium. THIS YEAR’S GAME WILL BE CARDINALS VS. CUBS ON OCTOBER 3, 2021! Festivities include a pre-game pep-rally, awareness walk around the field before the game, and a ticket to the game to watch the Cardinals! RAISE MONEY - EARN TICKETS The best way to get tickets to Walk in the Park is to raise money for Step Up for Down Syndrome. Step Up Teams that raise money will earn ticket packages to the event and will have the chance to claim them before public sales open up. Ticket packages in- clude commemorative t-shirt, baseball game ticket, entrance to walk to the warning track before the game, and access to the pre-game pep-rally. STEP UP TEAMS WILL EARN TICKET PACKAGES BASED ON THEIR TOTAL AMOUNT FUNDRAISED For every $150 your team raises, you’ll earn 1 TICKET PACKAGE to Walk in the Park. If your team raises $10,000 or more, you’ll earn 2 VIP TICKET PACKAGES to Walk in the Park. If your team raises $15,000 or more, you’ll earn 4 VIP TICKET PACKAGES to Walk in the Park. VIP TICKET HOLDERS WILL WATCH THE GAME FROM A SUITE WITH ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET AND BAR.
TOP FUNDRAISING TEAMS EARN SPOTS ON THE FIELD! If you’re looking for some motivation when setting your fundraising goals, check out these exciting incentives! Your team honoree with Down syndrome has the chance to take the field before the Cardinals game at Busch Stadium. THE TOP 2 FUNDRAISING TEAMS with a team honoree 7+ years old - will head out to the pitchers mound and throw out the first pitch! THE TOP 3-10 FUNDRAISING TEAMS with a team honoree 7+ years old - will earn a field spot in the starting lineup, will be introduced by the announcer, and will meet a Cardinals player! THE TOP 5 FUNDRAISING TEAMS with a team honoree under 7 years old - will stand at home plate with one parent during the starting lineup ceremony. WALK OFF WINNERS - Additional field slots are available for Walk in the Park! For every $500 your team raises, you’ll earn an entry into the Walk off Winner Raffle. A total of 5 additional field spots will be raffled off - 3 spots for team honorees 7+ years old and 2 spots for team honorees under 7. TEAMS WITH MORE THAN ONE HONOREE MUST DECIDE HOW THEIR FUNDRAISING TOTAL WILL BE SPLIT BEFORE THE FIELD SPOTS ARE DETERMINED AND THE WALK OFF WINNERS ARE DRAWN.
