LIATRIS This classic ground cover loves a shady or semi-shady spot. It reliably sends up small, oval leaves and dainty white flowers. Price: $5/pot LOOSESTRIFE Also known as Blazing Star, this native Canadian plant is beloved by butterflies. A spectacular plant, Liatris grows three-foot-high purple spikes and, unusually, they bloom from the top down. Originally a prairie flower, Liatris likes lots of sun. It grows from a corm, a kind of bulb. PERENNIAL Price: $5/pot LILY OF THE VALLEY Not to be confused with the noxious weed Purple Loosestrife, Yellow Loosestrife is a vigorous species that has been grown in gardens since Victorian times.
