Eat healthier, exercise, lose weight, be nicer, get off my electronic gadgets, …….. Yikes, seems like the same old, same old. As you know, I love music and meanings behind the words from the artist. Michael Jackson wrote a song called “Man in the Mirror”. This song is about making a change and realizing that it has to start with me, myself and I. To make a difference on the outside, I have to start first from within. “I’m gonna make a change for once in my life, …..gonna make a difference………… I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways, and no message could have been any clearer. If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, and then make a change.” We see homelessness, hunger, addiction, loneliness, mental illness, fakeness, fear, pretending to be happy or saying I don’t need any help. We must not be blind to this. Here’s what my “new” New Year’s resolutions should be. I want to take the parts of my life that I want to improve and use God’s Word and all the other resources I have to make a change. When I look in the mirror I want to see Jesus reflected in me! I want to be able to happily follow Christ’s example. Read Matthew 5:3-9. It’s the Beatitudes. Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” That’s how we can all make an impact. I need your help, your reminders, your enthusiasm, your caring, your epiphanies.
Let the work of Christmas continue. Happy New Year. Fellowship Nibble and Chat Will you help with refreshments after the 10:30 service? We have opened the signup for February. The meditations are rich in substance and offer a wide range of witness and experiences. Each month's meditation is written by a different author. Forward "Day by Day", daily devotions for disciples, are available to you at no charge. This issue covers February, March and April. Copies are available in the church Narthex and the Parish Hall. Outreach A Word from Our Little Roses... Dear Peggy (Melton), 2021 has flown by like the blink of an eye. It is hard to believe that we are already enjoying the festivities of the Holiday Season as 2021 draws to a close.
I want to take this opportunity to be able to thank you for all of your love and support of Our Little Roses during this past year. Your support has helped a girl escape a life of suffering, abuse and extreme poverty to a life filled with love, caring, educational opportunities and spiritual growth. 2021 has been challenging, the Pandemic has continued to take thousands of lives while Honduras struggles to get the population vaccinated. We rejoice that all of our girls and staff from 12 on up have been vaccinated and we are now in the process to get boosters for those that are applicable. Hopefully they will include children aged five and up soon for their first vaccination, however, between time, we will continue to maintain all the bio security measures now in place. Honduras is rejoicing that the Presidential elections were peaceful and the general population is hopeful that our new president, Xiomara Castro, the first woman president of Honduras, will bring prosperity and a new vision for Honduras. Thank you for helping us get through another challenging year. It has been another year with all the girls studying virtually, limited visitors to the compound and rising prices for food and materials, exacerbated by shortages. However, we pray that in 2022 we will be able to welcome you again because the girls miss seeing and being with their extended family. We thank God for your ceaseless prayers and financial support that despite the obstacles that we have faced, have made it possible for us to be able to transform the lives of so many girls. This month we rejoice in two more graduations from High School, Lizeth and Gabriela who will begin the process of studies in a technical career and the University. As 2021 closes, we have much to give thanks to God, but most of all I give thanks for YOU (St. James), because without You, we never could even dream to achieve our goals of preparing girls for a bright future. May God continue to bless your life as He has blessed ours and may 2022 be a year filled with love, joy and prosperity.
