In fact, the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface has collected more than $375,000 in support of the 2020 Good Shepherd Campaign ending on January 31, 2021. We have surpassed the goal of $275,000 set in the fall by $100,000. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 1,055 donors who contributed to the campaign and to the parishes that promoted it. Thanks to you, the Archdiocese’s deficit for the fiscal year of February 1, 2020, through January 31, 2021, will be less than what was projected in the early months of the pandemic. Further details about the campaign results will be published in the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface’s annual report. The donations collected through the campaign are used to support the formation and pastoral internship program of our seminarians and the archdiocesan response to the COVID-19 pandemic in support of its parishes. Weekly News Bulletin January 14, 2021 *NEW* Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – January 18 – 24, 2021 Every year, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Christian communities and churches join together to pray for the visible unity of the Church, according to the will of Christ who prayed on the eve of his suffering and death “that they may all be one… so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Prayer for Christian unity is a sharing in the prayer of Jesus who desires his disciples to share the Good News of God’s love in every time and place. Our customary way of marking the Week of Prayer here in Winnipeg with a City- Wide Ecumenical Service and other services throughout the week has been curtailed this year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, we are still invited to practice a heightened “spiritual ecumenism” during this annual weeklong observance, even if the form of our public and private praying for unity must be adapted to the circumstances in which we find ourselves. Events and activities: Winnipeg Livestream Celebration for the Week of Prayer 2021: Uploaded from Saint John XXIII Church: Monday, January 18 at 7:30 PM. Livestreaming and music to begin at approximately 7:20 PM. A different Christian leader will guide us each day as we explore the theme "Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit" (John 15:5-9). WPCU ONLINE ECUMENICAL SERVICE: You might also want to register for the WPCU Online Ecumenical Service planned by the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism (Montréal) on Sunday, January 24 at 3:00 pm (EST). The service is bilingual. Register to receive the Zoom or YouTube links by clicking here. FURTHER WEEK OF PRAYER RESOURCES available online at www.weekofprayer.ca *REMINDER* COVID-19 Vaccines - Moral Questions and Principles Is it OK for a Catholic to be vaccinated against COVID-19? The short answer is: yes, it is. Yet there are many reasons to ask this question. The moral issue arises from the fact that vaccine development and testing often make use of cell lines derived from either the tissue of aborted fetuses or destroyed human embryos. We invite you to explore some resources that can help us all reflect and deepen our understanding of Catholic bioethics, as well as pray for the application of the best medical practices in fighting COVID-19!
