SUPPLY
  Commercial compounders:
SPS colleagues continue to work with NHSE&I infusions and Special Medicines Board on
recovery plans with aseptic compounders and have developed a slide set of core messages for
Trusts (see next slide). It's essential that Trusts continue to implement
these measures. Aseptic compounding services continue to struggle to meet demand
in response to the severe disruption of supply from two non-NHS service providers.
Performance has again deteriorated due to COVID absence and weekly meetings with
one supplier have been reinstated. SPS has been asked to support Regional Chief Pharmacists
in establishing oversight groups. DHSC Medicines Supply Team is now maintaining a strategic
  overview.

SPS is also working with DHSC and CMU and with compounders and Homecare providers to
formalise systems for the management of shortages and considering how to develop a
management process for service failures in these areas.

Use of licensed ready to administer chemotherapy products is one of the key recommendations.
The existing irinotecan and gemcitabine range is being extended in Autumn 2022, along with the
introduction of licensed pemetrexed bags. Trusts should plan for a rapid introduction of these
  products.
