Mayor’s Message On behalf of Arnprior Council and staff, it is my pleasure to present you with the 2019 Spring and Summer Edition of Arnprior Life. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their efforts with these events and programs for Spring through Summer. The Town has brought together so many programs and events to keep everyone, regardless of age, active and entertained all spring and summer long. Many of the Town’s popular summer events will be returning beginning with the 3rd year of the Arnprior Sunday Market Season (pg. 46) which begins on Sunday, May 19th. I have no doubt that this year’s market will be bigger and better than the last. The musical entertainment at Robert Simpson Park will launch with 10 hours of live music and family fun at Priorpalooza (pg. 46) on Saturday, June 1st and continue every Sunday with Concerts in the Park from 1 - 3 pm (pg. 46). You also don’t want to miss Arnprior’s annual Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st and Arnprior’s very own Dragon Boat Festival (pg. 47) on July 20th. Town staff have carefully planned plenty of programing to keep you and your family busy, including the ever popular Camp Wanago which sold out last summer (pg. 41), new summer splash down public swims (pg. 19), new barre fitness (pg. 33) and both women’s (pg.31) and youth ball hockey (pg 35). There are also less structured recreation programing for all to take advantage of, including public swims (pg. 19), public skates (pg. 17), the splash pad (pg. 19), the beach and our lending hub (pg. 7) which provides residents access to recreation equipment like kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards and so much more. However you enjoy keeping busy, make sure you take some time this Spring and Summer to enjoy the beautiful Arnprior Waterfront. We are fortunate to have this stunning feature in our community and whether it’s taking a nice walk along the trail, dragon boating on the water, renting equipment from out lending hub to get out on the river or swimming at the beach make sure to take full advantage of the waterfront during this Spring and Summer season. Staff are always looking for new program ideas and events to ensure the Town of Arnprior offers something for everyone. If you have an idea or suggestion for an addition to the Town’s recreation offering, please do not hesitate to contact the staff at the Nick Smith Center. Enjoy your Spring and Summer with family and friends and be safe. Walter Stack, Mayor, Town of Arnprior Town Council consists of 7 members who serve a four year term of office. Council composition includes a Mayor, a County Councillor who also serves as a member of County Council, and 5 Councillors, all of whom are “elected at large”. 2018 to 2021 Council Members are: Mayor Walter Stack, County Councillor Councillor Dan Lynch, Councillor Ted Strike, Councillor Lynn Grinstead, Councillor Tom Burnette, Councillor Chris Toner and Councillor Lisa McGee. 3
Manager’s Message I’d like to start by thanking everyone in the community for their tremendous support during my first year in this role. I’ve enjoyed the many conversations and exchanges with so many passionate people that have brought forward new ideas and suggestions to enhance our recreation programming, our facilities and events in our great Town. It is no secret that we have a lot of work ahead of us at the Nick Smith Centre – from the infrastructure that is in need of some much needed TLC, to our programming that we’re looking to enhance following the results of our Public Recreation Survey this past Fall – we will continue to find ways to improve our programs and our facilities to meet the needs of our growing community and our many users. Much has been made about the launch of the new Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) this past Fall and we’re thrilled with what this new resource is offering our community. If you are not already a member, be sure to get your membership this Spring. A recently launched component of the SALC is their new Men’s Shed – visit their website or Like their Facebook page for updates on this and their growing list program offerings. Throughout this publication watch for the new Age Friendly logo beside various programs. This designation means that the program is designed for adults and older adults and/or the program instructor can modify the program to suit the various needs of older adults. Be sure to circle March 30 on your calendar as we host the Seniors Information & Active Living Fair at the Nick Smith Centre. This is a FREE event and will offer plenty of information and resources to seniors in our community. While you’re circling dates on the calendar, be sure to circle March 31 for our first-ever Arnprior Life: Recreation & Culture Fair. The purpose of this fair is to promote all the programs, activities and clubs that operate in our community. We’ll offer this same fair against in the Fall (September 14) looking to programs and activities leading into the Fall and Winter season. Our staff have put in countless hours working towards the launch of our new recreation management program that will greatly enhance how we offer our services to the public – most notably offering online registration. Watch for more information on the launch date of this new program. One of the great things about living in the Ottawa Valley is we truly get to experience all four season, but let’s be honest of the four seasons we all look forward to our summer – and we’ve got an exciting summer ahead! Priorpalooza (June 1), Canada Day (July 1), the Dragon Boat Festival (July 20) and Concerts in the Park (June 2 – August 18) are just some of the exciting events in our community this summer. Visit our Special Events calendar on Page 2 and other special events on pages 43 - 47 to learn more about what’s going on in our community this Spring and Summer. We continue to look at new program offerings and welcome your continued input and feedback – my door is always open. Cheers an early Spring and a beautiful long Summer! Rentals Facility User Liability Insurance Program What is the Facility User Liability Insurance Program? The Town of Arnprior receives a Master Policy issued through Frank Cowan Company covering Facility Users. The Facility User Liability Insurance Program allows individuals and/or groups renting a Town of Arnprior facility to extend liability insurance protection. The intention of the insurance coverage is to protect facility users from financial exposure resulting from claims that may result during their activity or event. The facility user liability insurance will be made available at the time of booking. The limit of insurance coverage will be at $2 million per occurrence. Facility Users The requirement for user groups and individuals to carry liability insurance is specifically for those users renting a Town facility. This program does not apply to use of Town facilities where a facility rental fee is not applied. Insurance Requirements Groups and individuals responsible for a facility rental are required to produce and maintain, throughout the duration of the Rental Agreement, proof of sufficient liability insurance coverage. Depending on the type of activity, sport or event, users will be required to have liability insurance coverage of a minimum liability coverage of $2 million. The program encompasses the rental of facility space, sports fields, and rentable parkland. The Liability Insurance Program provides the opportunity for individuals or groups renting our facilities to either: • Provide proof that they already have obtained liability insurance that meets the Liability Insurance Program requirements; or • Be provided with liability insurance under the Facility User Liability Insurance Program For information or assistance with facility rentals, contact a Customer Service Representative at the Nick Smith Centre at 613-623-7301 or the Finance Branch at Town Hall at 613-623-4231.
