Mitchell’s Missives: Advice from Mitchell Massanelli Need advice? Submit your questions, and Mitchell will answer them! Q: Why do I keep getting ghosted? A: In all honesty, if someone takes forever to respond to every snap or text, they’re ghosting. Nobody is busy enough to take hours and hours to reply back unless they have an active job. If you’re being ghosted, the person is not interested in any further conversations, so give up on them and surround yourself with the people that actually care. It’s not necessarily your fault. People lose feelings or change, or some never had good intentions in the first place. ————— Q: What should I not do as a senior? A: Step one is to not fail. However, don’t stress yourself over classes that won’t matter to your career in the long run. High school grades are important, but nowhere near as life altering as some people say they are. You still need to broaden your knowledge and learn, but don’t make it stress you out or lose sleep over it. Remember, school lasts 12 years, and you last forever. So help you out. ————— Q: Do you have any advice for the underclassmen? A: High school only happens once and is time limited, so enjoy it. Study a little, have fun, and most importantly, get in some [minor] trouble. It makes some good memories. ————— Q: How can I get TikTok Famous? A: The trick to getting famous is to act dumb or do dumb stuff. The big difference is that none of the people that are TikTok famous are acting. They’re natural. Also, it doesn’t hurt to be a girl and play that song that says ‘whatchu doin with all that…’ Students Compete in Rubik’s Cube Competition The Spring Hill GT, under the direction of Mrs. Maci Curtis, competed in a Rubik’s Cube competition. Here is not A: Here, it’s like I don't have a lot of free time to do the same as home, where I come from. things, but I like to draw and listen to music or play a game on my phone. In my home country, I used to go to the mall everyday after school and hang out with my family and friends.
Jirakit “Pup” Arunnitithum Photo by Jenna Neely Jirakit Arunnitithum Q: What are your favorite things about Thailand? A: I think my favorite thing about my country is Thai food. Every tourist that goes to Thailand likes to eat Tom Yum and Pad Thai (it’s soup and noodles). Thai people like to eat hot food, therefore, most of Thai food is hot, and it has a dimension of flavor. For example, the taste of Tom Yum is hot, salty, and sour. Q: What would you like to tell others about Thailand? A: I live in Bangkok, which is the capital of Thailand. There are a lot of tourist attractions, like beaches, mountains and big shopping malls. Thailand is not a big country, so you can ride the shuttle bus or the sky train to go to other places. Each province has its own prominent points. If you want to go shopping, Bangkok is the best place; if you want to go to the highest mountain in Thailand, you have to go to Chiang Mai. Q: Why did you want to study in the US? A: Basically, I think every exchange student has the same purpose for study abroad. They want to learn the language and culture. I want to study in the U.S. because I know that English is the most important language to learn. When I was 12, I started watching NBA, and I started playing basketball with my older brother. I always watched NBA and tried to practice like the NBA players. One day, I told my dad that I wanted to go to America to play basketball. My dad always supports me with everything. He told me that he wanted me to come to America because English is very important, and he knew I wanted to play in America. Q: What has been the biggest culture shock/difference that you have had to get used to? A: It’s about the fast food restaurants. In my country, when you are done eating, you can leave the cup and the tray on the table, and the waiter will clean later. Here, we have to put the trash in the trashcan because nobody will do that for you. Q: What has been your favorite part about being over here? A: I like the school and the people here. I think the school here is better because they allow the students to pick their classes, and I don’t have to be serious about the lessons. People here are very kind and friendly. My first day at school was great, and everyone always helps me. Q: How are the school systems here and in Thailand the same/different? A: In some schools in Thailand, every student must give their cellphones to the teachers before class. The school gives each student a schedule, and we can’t change it. Sometimes we have 5 periods of math class in one day. Most schools have over 2,000-10,000 students. Q: What do you do in your spare time, both here and in Thailand? A: I like to watch movies or cook sometimes. I also play basketball at the public court with my friends or my brother. Q: What do you want to do after you finish school? A: I might get a job in which I need to speak English. For example, working in a restaurant that has a lot of foreigners. Q: What will you tell your family about your experiences in the US when you return home? A: I will tell them about school, the culture, the people here, and the things that I have learned.
