STATEN ISLAND COUNCIL FOR ANIMAL WELFARE, INC. P.O. Box 120125, Staten Island NY 10312-0125 www.SICAW.petfinder.com SICAW1972@yahoo.com 718-948-5623 “Share In Caring for Animal Waifs” Spring 2019 Published Quarterly Dear Friends, On behalf of our Board of Governors I would like to wish you a happy and healthy 2019. I am delighted to announce that 2018 was a very good year for our organization. With your help we placed 159 cats in loving homes, and 66 animals were spayed or neutered through our low cost certificate program. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers, foster parents, caring veterinarians -- and great supporters like you! It was wonderful to see so many friends who came out in November for our annual Holiday Fair. The Fair is our most important fundraiser, but it is also a time for members of our SICAW family to come together in celebration of our many years of rescue work. For this reason, it’s always a very special day -- and one that involves a great deal of planning and hard work. Our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed their time and talent to make the Fair a truly memorable event. We are pleased to report that our December “30 cats in 30 days” campaign, created by our outstanding marketing team, was a huge success. They have been hard at work expanding our advertising and social media coverage to promote awareness and pet availability. You can now meet the pets up close and view adoptions in progress by connecting with us on Facebook or Instagram @sicawsaves. And look for exciting changes as the team launches our stylish new website in the coming months! Our cats/kittens for adoption can be seen daily at the PetSmart Adoption Center, and on Sundays from 11 am to 2 pm at Petco in Tottenville. Please note: Petco has moved to a larger space in the same shopping center. Their new address is 165 Bricktown Way. If you are unable to adopt at this time, please consider fostering. With kitten season fast approaching, the need for foster homes is crucial. You can literally save a life simply by opening your home on a temporary basis to shelter an animal who would otherwise have no hope. We will provide the supplies -- if you supply the love! Together we can continue to make a difference, one animal at a time. With warm regards and many thanks for your continued support. Clo Garguilo Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare, Inc. BOX 120125, Staten Island, NY 10312-0125 YOUR STAMPED, SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! BORN TO DIE?? Nearly 20,000,000 cats and dogs are put to death each year because there are not enough homes for them all. Sadly, many pets are abandoned to an uncertain fate when their owners lose their homes. Responsible pet lovers can help stop this tragic loss of life by spaying or neutering their pets. As anyone who is feeding multiple strays knows, it would be far cheaper to neuter once than to feed the generations that are sure to follow. The time has come for us to wage an all-out war against uncontrolled animal overpopulation on Staten Island. We have started a spay/neuter fund. Let’s break the vicious cycle of unwanted births, unspeakable suffering, and the ultimate destruction of innumerable innocent animals whose only crime was to be born into a world in which there was no place for them. He got the care he needed, came home to begin life as an indoor cat, and became Molly’s big brother.
